Re: Thanasi Kokkinakis

Simply not effective enough on first serve in that match.

Re: Players who play/played as gracefully as Federer?

What sets Federer apart is consistency rather than grace.

Players like Santoro and going back further Mecir to me could demonstrate grace at another level.

Re: Another Australian Young Gun: Omar Jasika

Was on top throughout the second, only to have his first double fault on set point. But lost his serve but then broke again to close the set.

In the third his second serve was punished heavily. ...

Re: Thanasi Kokkinakis

The temptation to look a head must be so tempting. From a players point of view, I am sure they do have to keep telling themselves to focus on the next match. But if you are not the person actually...

Re: Another Australian Young Gun: Omar Jasika

This is the logic I prefer at this time. My thoughts may be coloured by talking up his chances, but for now I will stay with declaring Bedene has been in form, so this last win was a great omen. :)

Re: Another Australian Young Gun: Omar Jasika

I do not get the point here. He just defeated Bedene, 33rd in the race this year, yet Krajinovic, 234 in the race this year will likely be a bridge too far?

Ok, given Krajinovic is ranked 9 places...

Re: WWW ? Indian Wells QF: (1)Novak Djokovic Vs. (32)Bernard Tomic

Not sure what your point is here. Tomic was not permitted to stay in Germany. Are you suggesting Tomic should have been in German Davis cup team?

Re: WWW IW R4: Kokkinakis vs. [32] Tomic

Both these posts resound with my thoughts. The win for Kokkinakis will lift his ranking sufficiently to change entries to future tournaments, where a win for Tomic would have little impact.

I also...

Re: Gulbis: "I have one of the best hands in the game"

I think the same thing occured to me. One of the best hands in the game is clearly not sufficient, especially if you have a two handed backhand.

Re: Indian Wells R2: Dimitrov def.Kyrgios 7-6(2) 3-6 7-6(3)

No, did not miss it.

Kyrgios was clearly the better player, but Dimitrov managed a better score better all the way through than he deserved. For example Ankle had no impact on the first set tie...

Re: Indian Wells R2: Dimitrov def.Kyrgios 7-6(2) 3-6 7-6(3)

clutch play from Dimitrov or the reverse from Kyrgios. Kyrgios serving for the match and is broken for the first time in the match. No previous break points that set and only faced on previous...

Re: Should Indian Wells and Miami be worth 1250 points?

They have one less labelling qualifying, and half the field for the real main draw (2nd round onwards) has to play what is like an extra qualifying round. Has the winner ever played the first round?...

Re: Thanasi Kokkinakis

First set of the Garcia=Lopez match:
Garcia-Lopez serves for the set at 4-5*. Kokkinakis breaks to love, holds, then breaks again to take the first 7-5!

Had a chance to close the 2nd, 5-4* 15-30...

Re: IW R1: Kokkinakis df Struff 7-6 (3), 6-3

Interesting idea on how to decide those who should be in challengers. Only 3 players on the main tour could get a little boring thought.

Re: The Everything Davis Cup Thread (News, Articles, Live Scores)

To be a logical choice for singles, you do not have to be ahead in the rankings, there are other circumstances.

Form in the lead up could be outstanding for someone like Kokkinakis and of a lower...

Re: James Duckworth Cheering Thread

Yes bizarre on the qualifying. Also because the draw is so large it can be that lower ranked players are eligible than is the case with 250 with less points on offer. The points is system is the...

Re: Bernard on hard-courts - 2015

Also climbs back to #1 ranked Australian. At one time I did not think he would earn back #1 Australian ranking but he has really turned some things around.

Re: Thanasi Kokkinakis

Went down 4-6 6(4)-7

Strange match. So many service breaks. Thanasi 2nd serve was hammered in the first set. Started second set with strong 2nd serve but weaker on the first. Normalised towards...

Re: Thanasi Kokkinakis

The best option? Would have been better if the draw had put him against Garza I suspect!

But the other qualifiers ended up with Young, Giraldo and Nishikori, so I agree it was the best of the...

Re: Bernard on hard-courts - 2015

Yes, waited to long to 'pull the trigger', when he did hit a faster ball it was only after he was under pressure, so in defence rather than attack. Needs to re-think his plan against Young.
