Re: Does Djokovic (Nadal as well?) have a problem being no.1?

It's got nothing to do with wanting it or being the hunter; players go through peaks and troughs. People are trying to find a psychological condition where there isn't any.

Re: The difference between a great and the GOAT

All players play on the homogenised courts, not just Nadal.

Re: Most impressive/difficult slam "double" in modern era?

Re: Masters vs. Grandslams

The importance of a Masters title is multiplied by how many Majors a player has won. They are a supplementary achievement, like the WTF and Olympic Gold.
IE If a player has 0 Majors, his Masters mean...

Re: Are Slams/Majors overrated?

It's interesting that under the Sampras standard, Nadal should be in the GOAT discussion because he ticks both boxes (titles and domination of rivals) but Federer shouldn't be in the discussion as he...

Re: Is there more of a stigma for Nole to be an AO specialist than when Rafa...

The Australian Open may not be as prestigious as the other slams but it's worth as much and it's as important as the others; and you can be sure that Nadal, Federer and Murray would love to win that...

Re: Nadal's double career slam

Sampras won his record setting* 13th major and 7th Wimbledon against Rafter (seeded 12), not Agassi (seeded 2), but it didn't matter. Agassi won his record setting 4th AO against Schuttler, but it...

Re: Nadal's double career slam

Why would he 'need' to beat Novak to deserve the hardware? Novak hasn't achieved anything at the French Open, this is like saying Nadal has to beat Murray at the Australian Open to be worthy of the...

Re: Would you consider Djokovic to be a Tier 1 great if he...

Why would it be less meaningful if those were the only surfaces available at the time? Connors won a major on all surfaces but you don't see him being elevated above Lendl or McEnroe because he...

Re: Would you consider Djokovic to be a Tier 1 great if he...

I think a player has to have a unique achievement to be considered Tier 1. Obviously, Federer is because he has the most majors and most weeks at #1. Laver has two calendar grand slams. Pete has six...

Re: Nadal's double career slam

Atter defeating Nadal, Soderling beat a couple of pretty good players - Davydenko and Gonzales - before losing to Fed. He defeated Nadal and Djokovic in the WTF that year. The following year, he got...

Re: CYGS - Why it should be a bigger deal than 4 in a Row

The closest anyone has gotten to winning six in a row was Fed Wim/USO 2005 to AO/FO/Wim/USO 2006 when Roger had the first set at the FO then Nadal lifted his game.

Re: Nadal's double career slam

^ Regarding Novak, he's up to 14 in a row SF and 18 in a row QF. I don't see anyone beating Novak before the semis unless he runs into JesusFed or somehow Nadal and Murray drop in the rankings. From...

Re: ~~ GOAT discussions ~~ Vol. 2

I know you tried to state a ridiculous number but 20 Majors will clinch the GOAT title for Rafa (3/11/3/3). That would place him a tier above Sampras.

Re: Nadal's double career slam

I think that distinction would have to go to Nadal's 9 French Opens - if he wins FO 2014.

Re: Would Rafa and Djoker fans agree to a trade next year?

For Nadal, a second AO would be nice, but that would 'only' tie him with Laver. A ninth French Open would further solidify his standing as the only man to win that many titles of a single major.

Re: Should Rafa's R1/R2 losses in Wimbledon affect his credibility as one of the GOAT

It's not completely unheard of because Sampras lost a couple of early rounds in 1995/1996 and Agassi lost early in 2002. These random losses don't really affect their legacies nor their standing in...

Re: How important is year end number one?

IMHO it's an incidental achievement that comes from significant achievements like winning majors and masters. Often times the "Year End Championships" doesn't even decide the year end number one.

Re: Is Djokovic's 2011 starting to look like a fluke?

Re: Will Nadal ever defend a non-Clay title in his career?

How is winning the same tournament two years in a row more impressive than winning several tournaments on the same surface in one year?

This looks to be an attempt to point out what Rafa hasn't...
