Re: Hamburg R1: (WC) Munar def. (7) Garcia-Lopez 1-2 ret.

Is this really his first ATP match win? Beating a player ranked as high as 28 must be uncommon for your first win.

Re: All time ranking of players by playing strength

Yes, lol. In terms of absolute level, even today's futures players are better than the best players from 80 or 100 years ago. Current challenger players would probably double bagel Tilden.

Just look...

Re: Grand Slam Game: For every F win, you claim pts equal to your opponent's GS count

Yes, only considering the final opponent doesn't make much sense. Currently the final is worth 800 points and the rest of the rounds 1200 combined. Either way, slams won in the past is not a good...

Re: Bogotá QF: (1) Karlovic def. Stepanek 3-6 7-6 (7) 6-4

Fantastic, and I'm glad he won the close (and must-win) tiebreak.

Re: Bogota R1: Ivo Karlovic def. D.E. Galan 6-7 6-1 6-3

Not shitty at all. He's a great player with amazing skills, and an inspiration to many.

Thanks for the interesting stats, again. Most tiebreaks played is impressive given that he played much...

Re: Monfils aims to reach the top five within two years

Good, every professional player should have that goal. There's no need to assume it's not possible before even trying.

Re: Reason behind the younger generations struggle?

What is certain is that the Big 4's presence can at most be a partial factor, since younger players also perform very poorly in terms of winning 250's or reaching slam semis etc, when often they are...

Re: Murray fans what would you prefer us open or davis cup?

True, it's a different kind of tournament, representing your country, doing it together with teammates etc, and with a lot of history too.
I consider the Olympics to be very important though, just a...

Re: Murray fans what would you prefer us open or davis cup?

A Davis Cup would be nice. I consider it about as important as a Masters 100 tournament. Maybe even more important since he has not won it yet. I don't really understand the comparison with a slam...

Re: NEW PORT FINAL RAM over KARLOVIC 76(5) 57 76(2)

Yes really disappointing for Ivo, but at least another final which is good at his age. But congrats to Ram fans, what a dream tournament for him.

Re: I'm having a real hard time liking Djokovic

I said 'usually', don't try to change what I wrote. And it's easy to see, successful players are watched a lot more than unsuccessful players, even controlling for the round they play in.

Re: I'm having a real hard time liking Djokovic

Because being successful implies he's a very good player, and very good players are usually interesting to watch? It's not that hard really.

Re: Should Nadal play the qualifying rounds at Wimbledon next year?

He can also practise elsewhere or play exhibitions. Losing his seed is not worth it. Even if he plays well he could lose to a top player in the first few rounds.

Re: Davis Cup G1: De Bakker def. Thiem 6-3 4-6 6-7(5) 6-3 6-4

Good win for the Bakker. And Haase will probably have the crowd behind him.

Re: Djokovic has now defended titles on all 4 surfaces

Probably the first defense for each surface is listed. Like Halle for Federer.

Re: Do you feel like the season is already over?

I don't think of tennis in terms of seasons. The year is just a number. The break between seasons isn't that much longer as some other breaks that (top) players take during the season, so to me...

Re: Newport R2: Ivo d. Jazeri 4 & 6, slaps down 20 aces in 2nd set

20 aces in a tiebreak set is an acceptable number for Ivo. I hope he'll have a long three-setter soon so he can aim for 50+ aces.

Re: Djokovic surpasses Federer in many match win index stats

That's true, we'll just have to wait and see how he holds up. It'll be very interesting to see what he has left.

Re: Grand Slam champions' Top-10 wins at slams

I'd say it is objective. However, ranking is not the best measure of how good a player is at time T because it only takes into acount the year before time T. In hindsight, it would be better to rank...

Re: Djokovic's Project 18 - how possible is it?

I think Djokovic fans should focus on 14 slams first, rahter than 18. Many will consider 14 unrealistic and maybe it is. But if he gets there, and Nadal doesn't win another slam, he'd be tied 2nd in...

Re: Djokovic surpasses Federer in many match win index stats

Yes he has some chance of getting to 302 weeks, although I don't think it's very likely. It takes just an injury or the breakthrough of a new player to thwart that. 5 year-end #1 is pretty likely at...

Re: Are grand slams weighted a bit too heavily when rating players historically?

Way to misunderstand my point. Of course no one played 7 slams per year. But if all 7 slams are counted towards slam count, then the players of that era had a much easier job collecting slam titles....
