Re: Bastad Final: Paire def. Robredo 7-6(7) 6-3

Beating the top 3 seeds to win title #1, some high quality serving towards the end of the match, top class drop shot on set point in the tiebreak, too good Benoit :worship:

Re: Great Britain F7 [13 July/Felixstowe/Grass]

Yeah I don't think it's likely either, I was shocked when I saw his name in the draw last week tbh :tears:

Re: Great Britain F7 [13 July/Felixstowe/Grass]

Thanks :yeah: I knew he had been coaching & figured he just played it for fun.

Wait & see as you say though... I hope he takes Estrella Burgos as an inspiration.

Re: Are grand slams weighted a bit too heavily when rating players historically?

Ahead of Sampras at that point, yes, but I don't think he would have been ahead of Laver or Rosewall if there had been no amateur/pro divide in the 1960's. I think those 2 would have ended with...

Re: Gael Monfils: very overrated as a tennis player

His biggest problem to me has always been his tendency to try to go for low-percentage/crowd-pleasing spectacular shots which don't pay off the vast majority of the time. It often puts him at a...

Re: Great Britain F7 [13 July/Felixstowe/Grass]

I'm surprised Josh Goodall didn't play this after qualifying & reaching 2R at Frinton last week. Was that just a one-off comeback? :(

Very good chances for Evans to make it 2 futures titles in as...

Re: Are grand slams weighted a bit too heavily when rating players historically?

Definitely when it comes to weighting the achievements of today's top players against the greats of the past.

Federer declared the GOAT by many as soon as he passed Sampras number of slam wins....

Re: Grand Slam champions' Top-10 wins at slams

Ivanisevic without a top 10 win at either hard court slam is also a bit of a surprising stat to me - didn't he reach the semi-finals of the US Open a couple of times?

Re: Grand Slam champions' Top-10 wins at slams

Wow - I didn't think he'd won more than one match there ever.

Chang is probably the only top 10 he could have had a chance against on grass though I guess - unless Muster or Berasetegui had...

Re: Wimbledon R2: [Q] Brown def. [10] Nadal, 7-5 3-6 6-4 6-4

Perfect grass court match from Dustin, amazing net skills :hatoff: & he has a decent shot at the quarters now if he can keep this level up ()

Re: Roland Garros R2 : Mathieu def. Isner 6-7(2) 6-4 6-4 3-6 18-16

Justice for Paulo that after all the injuries and disappointments over the years, that he finally has a win like this, gutted I missed it. Good draw in the next round can only hope he can somehow...

Clay 2012.

No thread yet?

Paulo thrashed Donald Young 6-0 6-1 in Monte Carlo today. :worship: Things get a little tougher next against Nishikori or Ramos, but let's hope he can keep this up.

I think it was...

Does anyone have the pics from the (shirtless ) photo set Kolya did with the French tennis photographer, Corinne Dubreuil a couple of years ago? They used to all be on her website,...

Re: Back on courts the 2012 indoor season

Good return, Paulo. Was starting to wonder if he would ever come back.

:wavey: to the former regulars here, hopefully this inspires a return for a few of us too.

Re: Tennis returns as Paul-Henri Mathieu wins his 1st round tie against Stebe, 64 64

Welcome back, Paulo! Decent win against a reasonably good opponent after so long out. Hopefully he keeps it up.

Re: US Open Final - Melzer/Petzschner d. Fyrstenberg/Matkowski 6-2, 6-2

Disappointing behaviour from Petzche. Still happy with the W though - hopefully they can grab a couple more slams over the next few seasons.

Re: The "Waiting For Paulo's Comeback" Thread

Hopefully he will come back next season - after such an injury and at nearly 30 years old, getting back to the top 100 and reaching a competitive level on the tour again would be a big achievement....
