Haase’s next opponent is Youzhny

While Lleyton Hewitt was telling the assembled press that he was withdrawing from the tournament, another player who placed in the qualifiers was being defeated on centre court. Tomas Berdych, number four on the list, was forced to admit defeat in three sets against Mikhail Youzhny, 6-4, 6-7, 6-1.

Berdych is also recognised as a great talent. He’s already defeated Roger Federer, during the Olympic Games in Athens, and has moved up to twelfth in the world rankings. Still, the Czechoslovakian does not always play consistently. Although he cannot be blamed for much else during his match against Youzhny, his efforts to recover during the decisive set were unsuccessful.
After both players had on a set in a very high quality match, Berdych was able to achieve break point on the Russian’s service. He did not exploit his advantage, then went on to lose his own service, as well as control over his game. He was only able to make his first game at 5-0.
The 24-year old Youzhny, a stylist with a single-handed backhand who won the Davis Cup with the Russian team, will be playing against Robin Haase of the Hague in the second round. “I’m not planning to say anything about my chances”, said Youzhny. “I know his name and know that he’s a young player who’ll be playing for his own fans. That type of player is always dangerous. When I began my own career, I was always extremely happy to be playing in Moscow.”

Misha had MP at *3-5 wasted then saved 4 bp when was serving for match
