~Davis Cup 2006: 1st round against Germany~

I was secretly hoping a geat year for the french team in the Davis Cup...in 2006  . After 1991, 1996 and 2001... it would have been logical.
But the draw has been done, and it's gonna be very tough.
1st round: Germany (in Germany)
2nd round: Netherlands or.........Russia
Now, for sure the are damned! :(

Here is an article + interview of the french captain Guy Forget. From fft.fr:

29/09 - 13h02

Hey! The Russians just did their job and well! You can't reproch them anything. Blame those of your teams which lost to them so many times!

Bloody French teams of the time!

The draw's not too bad.
I'm glad you're more reasonable here than those in GM (but still you seem to focus on Russia when the first opponent which shouldn't be forgotten is Germany IN GERMANY...) so that here i'll be the optimistic one! Not like in GM where i was accused of being a whiner (by Vincayou FYI).

The first encounters are winnable. If they win it will be tigh but it's possible. Your team is "young" but talented and versatile enough which is a great plus in DC.

Let's hope Grosjean will play. You're right Julie.

Haas and Kiefer, both ex top 10...
;)

Well yes! It would be better for the team.
That's sad that Paulo disappointed so many people in the last DC match against Russia. He had done great things in the Davis Cup against Spain and Sweden in the past. But now, I guess no one wants to see him back in the team cos he is again the Paulo *who makes the team loose*
Now, I just hope Seb will come back in the team.

How many times Seb's lost to Davydenko in this season, 3?..

And delsa is right, to play against germans in Germany is not so easy, they have a very strong team.

Davydenko? Don't talk about Davydenko :scared: :scared: :scared:
I was talking about Seb to come back in the DC team because we will need him if we want to reach the 2nd round.
The 2nd round will be another story

If Seb, Richard, Paulo, Mika, Arnaud and Fabrice all offer to play, France has a great chance of doing well. :)

Irina

I for one here :hearts: Russia. I'd love to go there at least once! :)
And their players (and whole people...) aren't to be blamed for the draw...
(But wait, maybe Boris...just kidding lol)

And it's high time the exclusion of Fabrice stops too...

But the problem won't be Davydenko in February, again, it will be Haas and Kiefer. I'm insisting... ;) Who would be the other German threats?...Rainer Schuettler, Alexander Waske like for their last play-off match against the Czech?

thanks for the great stats and commentary, delsa :yeah:

i don't think arnaud at his current ranking and form should be considered for dc singles anyway, unless there isn't another choice! lol

of course a few months can change things greatly for any player. so i won't speculate now.
