The "Tough Love for Juanqui at the USO" Thread

:shout: Juanqui, enough is enough! Reverse psychology didn't work on you, so time for some tough love. :boxing: This is your last chance to make an impact on the US hardcourts. :timebomb:

Third round is for has-beens. :banghead:

Second round is for wimps. :nerner:

First round is for losers. :retard:

You say you're the same old Juan Carlos as in 2003, so show it! :ras:

Shape up or ship out! :armed:

Gosh, you just speak my mind. :worship:

Seriously, I don't care he lost to top quality players, lost is lost, early round loss sucks 100 times more. Juan Carlos is too good to have these kind of results. Hewitt shot back to the top after falling out of Top 10 for a moment, Safin got to a slam final when he ranked 86th. Show us you belong to the elites. I feel shame that I have to doubt you, but I don't know how to believe when these 2nd/3rd losses come week after week. I'm lacking imagination in my optimism.

This is just so sad, so sad.

I am too heartbroken right now to say anything positive. But erm... if tough love is what you want, believe me you'll get it from me.

JC let this be a lesson. You can play 2 sets of phenomonal tennis, your opponant can play only 1, and you will lose the match.

I always knew that the way back will be hard, but does it have to be that hard?

He'll be the 21st or 22nd seed, so that means he won't meet a top 8 player in the 3rd round, I hope he has a favourable draw :) If he plays as he did yesterday it should be a good tournament :yippee:

The problem is, that this year he only plays well against top 8 players. It's the lower guys he loses to.

But has he lost to any of those players since Wimbledon? ;) The USO will finally be the time to do some damage. No low seeding where he could meet a top 8 in the third round, and he has been picking up his game in the second half of the year, so at least 4th round I think.

And if he doesn't make the 4th round, CASTRATION FOR BORG!!

Egads. Castration is rather.... harsh. I don't think Patricia would like that very much.

Although I was calling for Roddick's castration last night.

He lost to top 8 players at all slams this year :) Hrbaty is the only non-top 10 player he has lost to recently and even that is nothing to be ashamed of.

Unfortunately Juan Carlos is a player who can easily lose to players he should beat, especially on hc. Those kind of upsets also happened in 2003 and before. It's just him, he's not a Hewitt or a Federer. As long as he doesn't lose to guys like Kim and Horna I can deal ;)

Re: The "Tough Love for Juanqui at the USO" Thread

Ferrero always plays better when he faces the big names, that is the case throughout his career. Problem now, his best is not enough to beat the top players, so it seems. He had Federer at mp, he was superb in that against Marat in RG, he gave the biggest challenge to Federer at Wimbledon, he had Roddick on the rope last night. That all sounds great, but bottomline is that he lost in all those matches. And the difference between the top player and the rest of the field is, those top players close out big matches, something he used to be able to do too. Granted, he choked in lots of big matches even during his top days. Nevertheless, the consistency, the ability of playing at a constant high level through the entire match or entire tournament is what brings one to the top and that's how he can bring himself back. A better draw can only get him to a certain point (although I do wish for good draw every single time).

Besides, he needs to beat a top player to prove himself all over again. Because he is Ferrero, they don't give him any credit. When they mentioned he was number 1, most of the time they stressed that he was there just briefly, as if reaching number 1 is not much an achievement. Before the match began yesterday, Brad Gilbert told the world that Ferrero's 2004 was lost because he lost it (he mentioned the chicken pox, but then he quickly stressed that Ferrero lost match because he lost his passion  ). My point is, we see 2004 is the year of misfortune, Gilbert suggested that it's Ferrero's fault because he lost the edge. JC don't deserve all these.

So I'm harsh on him now, I cannot bear to see him lose a match like the one last night. I want him to be back to what he was capable of before. He know he has it in him, we know he has it in him. That's why we or maybe just I expect more. I demand a good result in USO and failure is not an option.

That's my tough love. :o
p.s. I would probably still "love" him even if he sucks as a tennis player from now on :o .

:yeah: totally agree :bounce:

losing to Andy Roddick on a hard court is hardly a huge shock, he is trying his best and he played so good last night. I'm sure he'll do really well :)

If he plays at the US Open like he did in the 1st 2 sets against Andy, I'm sure he can go far.

Unfortunately, because he'll be seeded 21, 22 or 23, a lot will depend on the luck of the draw. He'll avoid the top 8 in the 3rd round but he could face anyone in the 4th. Personally, I think he wants to avoid players with big serves like Andy so I'd rather see him play Hewitt, Agassi, Gaudio or Davydenko in the 4th round than Federer, Andy or Marat.

As for his possible 3rd round opponents, he'll want to avoid:
Coria, Nalbandian, Gasquet and Stepanek
He'll want to get:
Puerta, Henman, T Johansson or Ljubicic
