Nasdaq-100 Open, Miami, Florida, March 23-April 3, 2005

Andre Agassi to play Nasdaq

Andre Agassi apparently will be at the Nasdaq-100 Open on Key
Biscayne, despite having pulled out of the quarterfinals at Indian
Wells on Friday with an inflamed big toe.

An Agassi representative told Nasdaq officials Saturday to expect
Agassi's wife, Steffi Graf, and their two children Monday. There was
no indication whether Agassi will be with them or come to Key
Biscayne later.

The tournament begins Wednesday but because Agassi is a seeded
player and draws a first-round bye, he would not have to play until
Friday or Saturday. He was to have a second MRI Saturday.

Hewitt pulls out of Nasdaq; Agassi to play

Lleyton Hewitt, who would have been seeded second at the Nasdaq-100 Open on Key Biscayne, has withdrawn from the tournament, likely because of injuries to his toes.

Hewitt's representatives did not immediately offer a public statement, but he played with the injuries Sunday in a straight set loss to Roger Federer in the Indian Wells final.

His absence kicks Andy Roddick, the part-time Boca Raton resident, up to No. 2 seed, and that guarantees that Roddick would not have to play No. 1 Federer before the final.

Hewitt's injured toes became a problem midway through the third set of his semifinal match against Roddick at Indian Wells. He said Sunday the right toe was worse than the left.

"It's all inflamed," he said. "Nail is going left, right and center," he said. "It's happened a fair few times in the past, but this is probably as bad as it's been."

Agassi has a bye in the first round & will face either Paul-Henri Mathieu or Michal Tabara in the second round.

If he plays like he did at Indian Wells he'll get to the semis.

Agassi to play at NASDAQ-100

By MICHELLE KAUFMAN

The NASDAQ-100 Open tournament directors got good news and bad news about two famous toes early Monday morning. Six-time champion Andre Agassi, who pulled out of the Indian Wells quarterfinals with an inflamed big toe last week, is expected in town Tuesday and plans to play. But No. 2 Lleyton Hewitt pulled out with a sore toe after losing the Indian Wells final to Roger Federer Sunday night.

''It's unfortunate because Lleyton is a very popular player, very exciting, and some of our best matches here have involved him,'' said tournament director Adam Barrett. ``He fights for every point and his matches are always high action. We'll definitely miss him.''

Barrett said he fully expects Agassi to play. Agassi was scheduled to play a charity event with Jim Courier in Tampa Monday night and then head to Key Biscayne.
''Everything I'm hearing is that Andre is making his way toward Miami,'' Barrett said. ``It would take a lot for him to miss this tournament. He enjoys Miami. His family enjoys Miami. He loves this tournament. He won't be starting until Friday or Saturday, so he has time to heal.''

Qualifying rounds began Monday and continue Tuesday. The main draw begins Wednesday.

i also had a quick look on Nasdaq draw:

there are possible meetings in the first stage with some players
who consider match (& win) vs Andre as a "match of their life".
They can bring difficulties...

Andre can possibly meet Mathieu, Gaudio, Grosjean, Kieffer, Dent... and Coria again is here.

We will hope Andre is in good condition and will win easy...

If Andre can maintain the same form at Miami , he will steamroll Federer.
I hope and pray it will be a day match ...
