The most untouchable Nadal`s record on clay
I was looking through some numbers, including refreshing in my memory again what a great amount of records this guy has on clay courts.
7 RG - record. 16 Masters - record. 81 victories in a row, more than two years to be unbeatable - record again. How do you think out of all these simulteneously amazing achievements which one is theoretically "easier" to overperform and can be done in relatively close future and which one seems to be eternal? Personally I think it`s RG titles ("easiest"). It`s hard to imagine anyone dominate this surface again so much, but not to lose a single match for such a long time - please, just impossible. I think this one will be never broken. Opinions? We have off-season anyway right now, the very time to threads like this. :) |

A mug era on clay has allowed him to achieve these results

Re: The most untouchable Nadal`s record on clay
The 81 winning streak on clay I find is the most unbeatable. The clay title count as is could definitely be broken. One could also argue Borg could have had several more French Open crowns. Despite the McEnroe dilemma he was facing, at Wimbledon and the US Open (and pretty much everywhere except clay) he was still the clay king. When he won his 6th crown at Roland Garros, he only lost 39 games up to the final. In comparison, Rafa only lost 37 games up to the final in 2008. Yes, Lendl gave Bjorn a run for his money, but you still had the feeling that Borg could not be defeated. Of course, this is merely all hypothetical and I normally hate "what ifs" but I think there is certainly a general consensus that players like Borg and Laver could have and should have had more slams to their name.
Either way, just by looking at all the slams, there have been several players that have achieved such numbers at the slams, so logically it probably isn't inconceivable that there will be more players in the future with such successes. |

His record in RG is amazing. 52-1 is it?? That's the most incredible to me. Having that superiority in a Grand Slam.

I agree, these records will forever be tainted by the fact they were achieved in a weak era of clay court tennis. His only challenger was fedmug :haha:, that says it all.

I still think Borg is better.
