Jan-Lennard Struff

I can't see a thread for him, and it would be criminal not to create one for him given his recent success.

Certainly one of my favourite players to watch.

Jan will play tomorrow against Matthias Bachinger in Helsinki. Good luck.

Totally winnable, if you ask me. Bachinger plays the odd great match, on average a decent player, but Jan is playing so well right now. I fancy him to win. It will be close, though.

I don't know how winnable it is, as Bachinger is almost a top 100 player.

Struff does look like a good hope for German tennis though, Stebe seems to be falling back, Struff may be the next guy to make a big impact, I sure hope so as German tennis needs one, never seen him play, will try to catch the match.

He's playing really well, just two games away from winning. 2-6 6-3 *4-1

Re: Jan-Lennard Struff

He did it, 6-2 in the decider.

Why does Jan have so few fans? He's up and coming, and is really great to watch.

I saw a little of his match against Bachinger. I'd like to see tomorrow's bout against Berankis, might be a good one.

Re: Jan-Lennard Struff

Indeed, but I think he's a big underdog in it.

The reason I liked Jan's chances against Bachinger was because he can exploit the opponent's movement well. Berankis is a much better mover than Bachinger, and is also arguably a better player from the back. Will be so tough for Jan.

There's always opportunities to break Berankis, though.

It will be on Friday, right?

Oh, it is? That sounds right, since It's a quarterfinal. Friday is better for me, so I should be able to watch that one in its entirety - it will depend on when it is being played vs the DC singles.

He beat Berankis. Amazing. At 4-5, Jan was struggling to stay in the set , fended off bkpts and got to the TB and won.
Got the early bk in the 2nd and won that too.

Preparing for Davis cup at tenniscrier.com, so didn't have much time to focus on this match. From the bit I could tell, Jan is good on a faster court.

(Helsinki is old school, Greenset Confort. Greenset resin on a vinyl rubber mat. Not the thick, soft rubber mats they are using in places like Mons. So this isn't as fast as the old Supreme carpets - but its still pretty fast by today's standard. For example, Djokovic would have had no chance vs Federer on this surface)

Jan taking it quick and seemed taking time away from Berankis really frustrated Berankis. I also feel Berankis is looking forward to the off season

This was a terrific performance. He's matured so much in the second half of this year. Great to see.

Lost to Nieminen, but it was to be expected, good run anyhow.

Unfortanetly Tennis is not the most famous sport in Germany and so the number 14 of Germany is not ver well known... :(

I am a fan of Jan and I live in the same town just like him. But if you look in the local newspapers here in the past half year, there were more or less three or four small articles about his results, although he won four futures in this time.

I hope this will be a little bit better in the future if he climbs in the rankings a little bit more. The chances are good, because of his injury in the beginning of the year, his first points drop not before may 2013...

Good performance from Jan today at the National Championship in Biberach. Defeating Beck 6-2 6-2 in the semis an is now on against Berrer in the final. :)
