"The Clash of Continents was conceived with the vision of creating a long-term sustainable event, which presents an interesting unique concept and the ability to unite continents together in support of tennis.

The inaugural 2012 edition, to be held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on November 24th & 25th features four world-class tennis stars representing the continents of Asia, Europe, North America and South America.

With prize money of US$520,000, the continental round-robin format will have the players compete over two days and battle for "Pride, Honor & Glory".

Alongside the event is the addition of a Tennis Festival at the Kallang Tennis Centre that aims to encourage communities from all walks of life to learn tennis and to lead a healthy active lifestyle through sport.

With continuous support and involvement of the tennis communities, we hope the Clash of Continents will become more than just an event but a platform for tennis enthusiasts to connect."

There's also one women's match between Daniela Hantuchova and Shuai Peng.

Interesting (if unncessarily "high-minded") concept. I don't know how Europe will enjoy being represented by Tipsarevic.

Tipsarevic representing Europe? What did the poor Old Continent do to deserve that :(

LOL. It's funny because he's Europe's #8 player, versus Monaco being South American #2, Nishikori being Asian #1, and Querrey being North American #3... yet he's still the highest-ranked player in the tournament.

The concept of the tournament really is cheesy as heck... by the second set of matches, umpires were calling out things like "Game, Asia" or "Advantage, Europe." BIZARRE.

Results:
Tipsarevic d Querrey 76 62
Monaco d Nishikori 76 62
Nishikori d Querrey 63 64
Tipsarevic d Monaco 75 36 10-5

Yes, they use a third set super-tiebreak format.

Tipsarevic, Nishikori, and especially Monaco seem especially aware that this is an exho tournament... they did a few things here and there that were more for the crowd that for the actual match. During the Monaco-Nishikori match, they traded points where they sliced and drop-shot each other and the other around the court, and even had a couple of tweeners. During the super-tiebreak, Monaco was down 4-8 then let a ball boy receive Janko's serve. Tipsarevic followed suit the next point and let a ball girl receive Pico's serve. Fun stuff.

It wasn't all clowning around, though, and there was actually a lot of good tennis.

Querrey vs Monaco and Tipsarevic vs Nishikori tomorrow.

After reading your post I have to admit this exho seems fun! In a weird way maybe, but still ;) Have a great time over there!

Yeah, it was definitely a fun exho.

Unfortunately, Nishikori pulled out of his last match vs. Tipsarevic due to injury concerns... which means that Tipsarevic - or rather, "Europe" - won the event. Monaco beat Querrey in three sets in what would end up being the last match of the tournament, which meant Monaco - er, "South America" - placed second.

Querrey looked more relaxed on that last match but still couldn't carry his first set momentum versus Monaco.
