Luciano Pitronello solidarity thread

As most people outside of Chile, i suspect you don't know who he is. Luciano Pitronello Schuffeneger is a Chilean anarchist who accidentaly blew up his hands attempting to place a homemade bomb in a bank at 2:30 a.m. The case has received a lot of press here given the state the guy ended up in and the insistance of a lot of people in the government to qualify this as a terrorist act and thus punish the guy to many years in prison (what is it about right wingers and their obsession with terrorism anyway?), in spite of the fact that he was only person who was injured.

looking at the foreign press, i found this classless gem from the Daily Mail, a newspaper which is probly even more awful than the rightwing trash we get here. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...side-bank.html

the schadenfreude and the anger expressed by many people is quite frankly disgusting. he was just a guy driven by his ideals and to that extent deserves respect, imo.

Why was he trying to bomb the bank?

Re: Luciano Pitronello solidarity thread

Probably because he thinks that the banking system is immoral and their profits are largely based on theft, which they are.

Really? Then he's a stupid anarchist because nowadays it's mostly the populist right wing parties who blame everything on the banks... Newb, the money in the banks is our money, and many banks all around the world are having serious losses in this crisis... Seriously, stop being such a bum... Even if all you think were true, no one is forced to go to an usurer or a banker

Waiting for buddyholly to show up :D

On topic, don't know why I should feel sorry for a guy who tried to place a bomb in a bank and failed.

his aim was to harm property, not people. alas in this country harming private property is more heavily punished than harming people.

So? Don't really think much of that either.

Don't really share his (or yours) agenda or sentiment about the banking industry either...

What happened to the guy was pretty horrible, but has to be separated from the idiocy of asking for solidarity with a criminal.

What angered you so much about the Daily Mail? I actually read the whole thing and all they did was tell the story.

Once again abraxas, you have shown what a foolish, immature person you are. Wasn't the Norwegian guy driven by his ideals? Do you respect him?

I think the Catholic Church is immoral, telling people to fill the Vatican's treasure chests with the promise of a better time after death. Would you respect me for fire-bombing one?

there are ideals one can realate to given they're based on a sense of fairness and equality that most people share. anders brevik is a nutcase driven by hate towards immigrants and their alleged supporters to the point of wanting to kill as many people as possible. by contrast, luciano pitronello is a man driven by principles we can accept as good natured (even though we might disagree about the means) and who didn't mean to harm others.

Having to deal with a bank is a matter of personal choice. Nobody forces anybody.

Unless governments bail out banks but this is another story and still not the banks are the ones to blame.

There is one thing borderline immoral in the way banks operate, but I am 99% sure this is not the reason you are blaming banks for.

What do you mean ''we can accept?'' Just speak for yourself. So far you appear to be alone in your opinion.

Anarchists are actually the most pathetic people among us. Not satisfied with their personal achievements, they seek to find comfort in destruction.

PS I never even noticed the headline pun. We British will pun on anything. It's not personal. But below that I found absolutely nothing that was mocking.

You said we must respect someone for following their conscience and express solidarity when they feel they must destroy other people's property.

Then you tell me you won't express solidarity with me if I do the same thing. That's not apples and oranges. That's you unilaterally deciding what property it is OK to destroy. Life does not work that way.
