The bronze medals matches started in 1996 but before that they award two bronze medals.

No, I already wrote a long response in another thread about why not, but no one has the goal of finishing their so there should be no match. Both losers should get a bronze.

No - boxing is at least one other sport that does it

All semi finalists are certain of at least bronze in judo, boxing and other Olympic sports, so I quite frankly don't see the point. I would do in the OG as the sports usually does elsewhere. There is always a bronze match in football, fine, let there be one in the Olympics. There is never one in tennis, fine. Do the same.

I like the BMM. I actually quite like the idea of double-elimination tournaments in general.

No, imo 2 bronze medals should not be given in any sport. Let them have a fight for it.

Alright. Then I guess it'd be OK to have both semi-finalists get the bronze, but personally I like seeing the bronze medal match being played. I don't see why not to have it :shrug:

2 bronze medals? What is this? Why not just cut it in half and give half to each? :rolleyes:

If I lost in the SF, I would want to battle for the bronze as opposed to just getting 2 bronze medals, which lowers the value of the bronze even more, imo.

IMO there should be a BMM.

More importantly, it should be the same for all sports at the Olympics. There has to be consistency.

Also, who decides this? I would assume that if it was an IOC decision, it would be same, irrespective of sport. So, if the ITF pleases, they can remove the BMM from the 2016 Games and award two bronze medals?

Well if they do that, would they also need a 4th spot on the podium? Or would Nole and Delpo both try to stand on the 3rd spot? :scratch:
