They better switch Giraldo for Falla in doubles.

Olympics Information Thread?

Anyone knows? It will be replaced? Will it be regrown? What's the process of returning to "day one" grass?

What's the standard procedure in Wimby? Is the grass grown or implanted almost mature to the courts? Will they do it differently this time?

Djokovic's going to eat it to the ground.

I believe they grow the grass, and will attempt to regrow before the Olympics. Will be interesting to see if they succeed.

Re: What's gonna happen with the grass from Sunday evening 'till the Olympics?

It'll be done slightly differently to normal.

From what I can tell the main difference is that they'll be using pre-germinated grass to re-sow the courts (grass that's already started growing) though the actual kind of grass will be the same as it is for the championships this year.

The other differences are simply the timescale; normally they soak the court and leave it for a week to start recovering, then take the top off the court, aerate the grass, resow the courts etc, but they have to condense all the processes.

They aren't too worried about getting full grass coverage back onto the showcourts, but the practice courts will pretty much be in the same condition they are in now since players will start using them about a week after Wimby ends which isn't enough time to do a tune up on those too.

My best guess is that they'll do a condensed process to treat the grass for the Olympics, and then give everything a bit more time than normal after that to have it in top condition for next year too.

One thing is for sure, if the organizers manage to get the grass up to the same standard it was when Wimbledon started in time to the Olympic first round, it it certainly going to be much better come the Olympic final than it is now.

Re: What's gonna happen with the grass from Sunday evening 'till the Olympics?

They will plant pre-germinated seed into the parts of the court that need it. They've been experimenting with this technique for at least 2 years, and had to prove it's efficacy. The only thing that could have hurt them was the Championships not finishing on time. That's no longer an issue.

Pre-germinated seeds are basically grass seeds that already have 4 days or so growth. They need that to be done because they only have 20 days between the tournaments and grass normally takes a bit longer to grow properly and then cut to proper playing height.

Here's one of the many articles regarding this.

Respectfully,
masterclass

Olympics Information Thread?

So I've been searching for info about the Olympics tennis tournament and it's quite hard to find. Had to use about 4 different websites to find some of the info I was looking for but I'm still missing some bits of info. What I know:
Scoring:
1st place 750 Pts
2nd place 450 Pts
3rd place 340 Pts

Matches to be played between Saturday 28 July and Sunday 5 August

Matches will be played as best-of-3 with no TB in the 3rd till the final which will be played as best-of-5 with no TB in the 5th.

Schedules to be announced daily(?!?). Games start at 11:30AM London time every day till the SF.

What I don't know:

1. When will the draw take place?

2. Will it be the same draw format as ATP events?

3. Who governs this event? ITF? ATP? Olympic committee?

4. Will they use the same balls as Wimbledon?

Add your Qs if you'd like.

BTW I just found out I can edit my thread title if I double click right next to it in the forum main page. Sweet ;)

I think he may have meant how the seeds are placed, how many seeds, etc.

I assume it's still 16 seeds, 1 on top, 2 on bottom, 3-4 random, 5-8 random, but I'm not sure of 9-16
