Second half of season 2012.

Even though this thread will mostly be about hard court season, we shall have to start with 2 clay tournaments, Umag and Hamburg.

After that he will participate in Olmympics and then will go onto his (probably) best surface.

If i have calculated right, Marin defends exactly 1000 pts by the end of 2012.
He is starting this part of season with 1825 pts and ranked 15 in the world (updated rank that he will have after Wimbledon).

His YTD won/lost up to this date is 18-10 (in comparison: whole year 2011. - 44-22; 2010 - 40-22; 2009. - 48-21).

Most significant points he is defending are:

Tournament Round Points Drop Date

US Open R32 90 10.09.2012

Masters Canada R16 90 13.08.2012

ATP500 Beijing F 300 08.10.2012

ATP500 Hamburg Q 90 23.07.2012

ATP250 St. Petersburg W 250 29.10.2012

ATP250 Umag F 150 30.07.2012

Upcoming known/expected schedule in the next two months:

09.07. - Umag (atp250)
16.07. - Hamburg (atp500)
28.07. - Olympic games (around atp500 status)
06.08. - Toronto (Masters)
12.08. - Cincinnati
27.08. - US Open

Joking around? He made final last year. Think he should reach that this year as well. And then about 50-50 against Verdasco imo.

I meant that he can't settle for QF's of smaller tournaments anymore, has to constantly go deep or win if he wants to go back to top 10. :)

I wouldn't mind if he he plays only one match here and doesn't play Hamburg next week. There's much more point in Olympics and two masters immediately after that this all seems like a waste of time and energy... he played a lot of tennis in past two months and he needs rest so that he can go far in his best surface.

Yeah, that's true. But the thing is, he can go far only on USO, maybe. Because he will choke on the other ones.

One more thing, he is defending 1000 points and so far he always gained arpund 1000 points or less in the 2nd half of the year, so I don't see how he can go to top 10. Only with semis of USO plus final or title in Bejing. And that will not happen for sure. He would choke on big stage, like he did in Wimbledon.
Pitt his had is not good leveled, he would be top 10 with average mentality but not with this choking one.

Wow, this is a sweet draw for Hamburg. It would be a shame not to take advantage of this one (as much as I don't want him to play there.)

Great win for Marin today. Tactically very mature and used his opportunities.
Now win it. :)

Re: Second half of season 2012.

I watched this live. Marin played top 5, top 10 tennis from 4:5 down. He was good before that too. One thing will change his career I think: he misses just few shots per match. I think about that some time. It was never like this.
After first Marin's match I thought he ill not loose a single set on this Umag.

wins the title 6-4, 6-2

great week for marin, didnt drop a set and congrats on his 8th career title.

honestly he really looked relieved to have won though. I hear the croatian president was in attendance

Re: Second half of season 2012.

Gratz Marin, you deserved it. :bigclap:
Yeah, president was at the winners ceremony down on the court.

It's worth noting that with this win Marin became the 12th active player to have a title on all 4 types of surfaces (clay, grass, hard court, indoors).
