Unofficial Live ATP Rankings [in Post #1]

By request from a few members to create a separate from Judio's thread with updated rankings, I will start this thread for frequent unofficial live ATP rankings. I will have a small break sometime in the future, but I will return afterwards, so don't worry if there will be a small interruption in the near future.

Now, one advantage to a new thread is that I can explain the color code and display mode for the table.

- The table displays current ranking standings by calculating the number of points dropped at the end of the period mentioned on the head table (the next official ATP rankings date).
- The Drop column details the number of points for all the tournaments that will be taken out of the player's rankings. Multiple tournaments may be dropped for each player, but the tournament with the most points dropped will determine the color of the drop points. For instance, 180 Wimbledon dropped along with 45 ATP 250 in the week after Wimbledon will result in 225 colored in red (Grand Slam color).
- The Gain column displays the total number of points the player has raised at the current tournament.
- The Effective column is the exact number of points the player will win or lose at the next official ranking. The total here is calculated based on all tournaments dropped and all tournaments played (GS qualies, Futures and all other tournaments that will be counted at the next official rankings). The color is determined again by the tournament with most points.
- The second Points column is for the next week after the current week. When no Grand Slam is being played, all current Futures tournaments are first counted there, since they won't be part of the rankings until a week later. Also, all next week's qualifiers will be counted there.
- In all weeks an additional Incoming Futures column is being displayed, along with the total tournament count calculated in advance so that the players with the same number of points are separated properly.
- During Grand Slam qualies another column with the points made there (not yet Live) is added. And during Grand Slams, another column with the points from the tournament is added in case a player goes to another tournament after the GS or GS qualies, but before the next official rankings.
- In the detailed week by week part of the table, you will encounter -1 points for certain players. Those tournaments are actually the tournaments in which the player has received a 0-point penalty for retiring or for not completing at least 4 ATP 500 tournaments in a year.

The colors used as background inside the table mean:
Green - The player is currently not eliminated from the Main Draw.
Red - The player was eliminated from the Main Draw or Qualifying Draw.
Blue - The player is currently playing on the Qualifying Draw.
Orange - The player has retired from any match.
Gray - The player has withdrawn from the tournament, but will incur a 0-point penalty. This will be noted as a -1 in case of ATP 500 events, and 0 in case of ATP 1000. This is due to the fact that ATP 1000 events are recognized as Mandatory by the system, while ATP 500 events are not, and there needs to be a difference between regular 0 (first round loss) and mandatory 0 (penalty).
White - The player currently does not participate in a tournament.

The colors used for text inside the table mean:
Red - The player is/was on a Grand Slam Main Draw
Regular orange - The player is/was on a ATP 1000 Mandatory Masters Main Draw
Light orange - The player is/was on a ATP 1000 Optional (MC) Masters Main Draw
Maroon - The player is/was on the ATP Tour Finals Main Draw
Green - The player is/was on a ATP 500 Main Draw
Olive - The player is/was on the Olympics Main Draw
Purple - The player is/was on a ATP 250 Main Draw
Plum - The player is/was on the World Team Championships tournament
Sky Blue - The player participated in the Davis Cup
Teal - The player is/was on the ATP Challenger Finals
Blue - The player is/was on a Challenger Main Draw
Navy - The player is/was on a 15K Futures Main Draw
Black - The player is/was on a 10K Futures Main Draw
Gray - The player participates on the Qualifying Draw of any tournament
Silver - The player does not participate in a tournament

Re: Unofficial Live ATP Rankings

The picture doesn't seem to be working in the OP.

Where will Gimeno-Traver be ranked if he wins Sevilla or if he is runner up?

Yes, it does here. Please try following the instructions located above:

and tell me if it keeps the trouble-making for you.

Gimeno-Traver would be 92 if the other players in front of him remain with the current points they have.

Re: Unofficial Live ATP Rankings

Alright, I have created an automatic week change algorithm, which I'm gonna experiment with tomorrow morning. It shouldn't insert any errors because it uses the methods from the manual week change, the problem is firing it at the right time (when all tournaments are done with) and keeping the task alive while waiting for them to finish. Also, creating a regular update task after the 8-hours long process is done. That's the tricky part.

This experiment will most likely continue next week, when I'm gonna be missing the weekend till Wednesday, so it has to know how to move on to the next week without me, otherwise it's gonna get stuck on the past week's rankings until I return. I apologize before hand for experimenting on you guys.:)

The bad part in all of this is that I couldn't finish my auto-synch algorithm, so I must synch with ATP manually. That means that next Monday it won't be doing that, so if there are any ranking errors, they'll have to wait until I return.

I'm not really satisfied with this week's performance.

Lots of mistakes. The DC update has been unstable and gave dead rubbers an extra tournament. There were mistakes inherited from last week's Futures results, which nobody really saw, and it even failed to add a new player (last week inheritance from a Futures as well).

34 mistakes/1981 players. A poor performance...

Re: Unofficial Live ATP Rankings

I can't check the ATP website at my work but can anybody confirm that the ATP gave only 5 points to Nishikori for his win over Sela (that means 45 points in Davis cup overall rather than the 50 ones I expected) ?

in the past, Darcis in 2010 got 10 points for his win in sunday's play-off even if he hadn't played on friday.

if they only gave Nishikori 5 points, that would mean that they changed the way they do that for a player who doesn't play on friday.

They did only give him 45 points.

Re: Unofficial Live ATP Rankings

I was thinking of something:

I could have the system automatically update rankings per countries along with the full update. I'm already doing this on another forum for Romania. But I wouldn't know where to post it on MTF or if anyone would be interested in the live rankings update for their respective country. So, anyone ?:)

Re: Unofficial Live ATP Rankings

Well the Brits already have a live ranking on another forum (the one in my sig). I'm surprised you didn't have any takers for other countries, but maybe they have something similar in their own countries?

Wow, that is an awesome display on this other forum. If that is your work, thumbs up, really great work.:clap2:

Re: Unofficial Live ATP Rankings

Slasher you could just add 3 columns. 1 for a country ranking next to a country column or official ranking (that shouh be easy, not sorting the list or anything, just adding 1 extra number by counting players from that country allrdy listed-higher ranked and adding 1) and at the end of the list (like that GB forums has) you count add 2 columns for ATP Race ranking and ATP race points... I realise that would be like making anouther rankings and making a new (similar, but a little different) algoritam but only for players with commitment, for the rest just add points from this year. For players with commitment you would need to count if they didn't furfill the commitment (regarding the ATP500 and 250) and count 4 ATP500s and 2 250s (and possible challengers) and when they furfill it, you count the best 6 tournaments. I mention that bcs I don't like the way http://live-tennis.eu/race just adds points dissregarding the mandatory tournaments that will surely replace added points. At makes a player actually lose YTD points by playing a mandatory tournament.

I realise you don't need any explaining as you know about this stuff more than I do, but I just wanted to make myself clear about what I'm talkin about. Anyway, it's just a suggestion, you are doing a great job as of now!

I really like the country ranking idea, and it's pretty easy to implement, this one I can do. I was thinking to create a separate table for the Race (in the future), but at the moment I want to make the current automated system stable before I implement something of that scale. Thank you kindly for you suggestions and feedback.:)

sorry to keep referring to federer here, but out of curiousity...

what does federer need to do in order to keep number 1 until he gets 300 weeks? i believe 299 is safe until shanghai, but what would he need to do in order to keep it for at least one more (big) week?

Anything that does not lose more than 1335 points up to and including Shanghai is enough. So Federer needs a QF in Shanghai to be absolutely certain.

If he does worse than that, it will be sufficient if Djokovic does not win both Beijing and Shanghai. A Shanghai W and Beijing F is "only" 1300 points. Not enough.

Re: Unofficial Live ATP Rankings

I don't know if this is the right thread to ask the following question: do the Olympics count as one of the 4 required 500 events towards a player's ranking this year or do they have to play 4 ordinary 500 events in order not to incur a 0-pointer?
Thanks. :)

Re: Unofficial Live ATP Rankings

ATP have replied to me on both questions I mentioned a few weeks ago.

The drop date will be one week early for the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Paris. We are making this exception to properly reflect the results of the year for qualification into the Barclays World Tour Finals.
Thank you for spotting the missing information on the ATP website.

We are working on the details of Daniel Baumann to have him show in the Singles Rankings on our website. He was credited in proper time and form with 1 point he earned at the Germany F13 Futures and is currently ranked #1669 in singles.

If you have any questions, please let us know.
A bit late, but good proper responses. This should be satisfying, right duong ?:D

Re: Unofficial Live ATP Rankings

Great for the answer on the dropping date, thanks :yeah:

Then it means that the points from Basel, Paris-Bercy and the WTF will drop on the same day (that is especially 3000 points for Federer -minus 150 points from Halle probably)

I guess they won't make an exception for challengers though, as anyway no player who might qualify for the WTF played one.
