Europe/Africa Group 1: Daniel Evans (GB) def. Lukas Lacko (SVK) 6-3, 7-5, 7-5
New hope for British tennis? Daniel Evans, 276 ranked ATP, new GOAT?
Also, Lacko, a bad loss, and in straights? |

New hope? Have you watched Evans before?
Awful loss for Lacko, though. Seems all his good form evaporated into nothing. |

Yeah, Evans is not so new.
Not good Lukas, not good. 2 good back-to-back tournaments, but long-term consistency is still absent :( |

:haha:
This is great example how small things can make your day |

Evans played well, came to the net a lot and finished off a high percentage of those points. Down a break twice in second set and still won it. Had a small setback serving out match missing routine volley with lacko nowhere but great victory, in straights.
The guy who interviewed evans post match got booed for suggesting he thought Evans was pretty much on a loser ha Good atmosphere, good start for team GB :) |

And Lacko was going to be consistent in 2012...

What I posted in the official DC thread:
Evans was brilliant. :worship: Sure, Lacko wasn't at his best, but it is clear that Evans has a new attitude to his tennis. He has evidently worked hard in the gym, and on his game. The serve is stronger than it was two years ago, and he played with a scary level of belief. Even when he was twice a break down to Lacko in that second set, he shrugged his shoulders and broke back immediately on both occasions. The old Evans would have thrown in the towel at that point (and already a set down). He played very positive, aggressive tennis and took his game to a world class player. Credit to him, and he fully deserves that win. Hopefully he can use this as a platform for the rest of the season...he has the talent to challenge for top 150, and can certainly take the Brit #2 spot off Ward along the way. |

In straights, Lukas? Really?

Agree with Horatio Caine, Evans played very well. Let's see if this has any impact on future challenger results.

Lacko tanked this, it was visibly obvious. Disappointing.

Evans' single hander was nice to watch when it went in.
Lacko is overranked IMO. Far too streaky. Once you go below top 50 on the tour, anyone can beat anyone down to the 200s- the gulf between the lower ranked guys is tiny compared to what it was around 2004-5. |
Re: Europe/Africa Group 1: Daniel Evans (GB) def. Lukas Lacko (SVK) 6-3, 7-5, 7-5
lol, slovak captain milo mecir apparently demanded Lacko give himself 3 uppercuts then apologise to his team mates in the locker room to which Lacko obliged...
a fair call by mecir here i'd say... i mean, 3 sets to 0...? to evans...? it's a bit over the top... |
