Any country would fight an armed uprising against a democratically elected Government. Sad when China and Russia are the ones standing up for democracy.

P.S. Is it all really about these guys trying to enforce Sharia rule?

No, Putin thinks he is Stalin and China is still a communist imperialist rogue nation. Only the remnants of those two empires could shamelessly support Assad, along with North Korea, Iran and probably Cuba and Venezuela. The face of real socialism.

putin certainly has many flaws but he's miles better than boris yeltsin who impovireshed and virtually sold out the nation to western interests.

russians are no idiots and they're aware of this all too well.
