Raonic: One of the top favorites for first Grand Slam 2012

Raonic must have been very impressive last week: He's one of the bookmaker's Top 8 favorites for the Australian-Open!

Raonic had a fantastic start to the season 2011 and was close to the Top 20 before he struggled with injuries and hasn't been that successful in the second half of 2011. :worship:

Raonic might be a Top Ten player in 2012 - finally!?

AUSTRALIAN-OPEN FAVORITES

Novak Djokovic (SRB) 2.15
Andy Murray (GBR) 5.50
Roger Federer (SUI) 5.50
Rafael Nadal (ESP) 7.00
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA) 15.00
Juan Martin Del Potro (ARG) 15.00
Tomas Berdych (CZE) 34.00
Milos Raonic (CAN) 41.00
David Ferrer (ESP) 51.00
Janko Tipsarevic (SRB) 67.00

bullshit, the serve bot couldnt win a slam if his life depended on it.

Murray was last year's finalist, which would mean exactly 2nd favorite.

Agree... he just won an ATP250 and is suddenly a one of the slam favorites?

They don't say the end is nigh without a reason, huh?

Yeah, in a exhibition match that he clearly didn't try in with the strong wind completely affecting his serve. Why anybody here would cite that as evidence of some kind of weakness, I'm not sure.

Nobody expects him to win a GS this year, but if he serves like he did last week, it's going to be very hard for even the best players in the world to knock him out. Making it to the 4th round or the quarters would be a great result for him.

If Raonic wins a slam, I quit MTF.

I don't see Milos win a slam this year, but in the 'rank' that the bookies give I think he's correctly placed. If you look at the prices other bookies give, you'll see that his place is 10th instead of 8th. Most give him 66/1; average give him 62/1.
Average he is priced just before Monfils but a lot better than Dolgo, Tipsa and A-Rod.

This is the top 16 ranked at the bookies (average over 14 different bookies):
Novak Djokovic 2,32
Roger Federer 4,89
Andy Murray 5,66
Rafael Nadal 6,56
Juan Martin Del Potro 15,50
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 18,95
Tomas Berdych 43,79
David Ferrer 49,79
Bernard Tomic 58,71
Milos Raonic 62,79
Gael Monfils 72,50
Alexandr Dolgopolov 127,21
Janko Tipsarevic 127,86
Andy Roddick 137,50
John Isner 143,00
Mardy Fish 158,36

Don't know why he's above Monfils & Dolgo, but fair enough he's above Roddick, Isner, & Fish. Superficially the odds on the youngsters seem short, but that's because the breakthrough triumph of a youngster against the odds is a fairly common story in tennis (Borg, Wilander, Becker, Sampras, Del Potro) - at least as common as the consolation victory of the fading veteran.

Surely it isn't based on results solely but gamestyle as well.
With his serve and more than decent groundgame he can beat anybody but can he keep it up in best of 5 sets matches?

Because he has more potential to beat top players with his serve, it's that simple really.

This is not 90s anymore, you cant win slams by serving alone.
