The "Clay is for Pots" 2011 Useless Clay Season Thread
LOL. Not gonna lie. I hope he somehow manages to skip the entire clay season and go straight to grass.

He needs points and he does not want Mardy to be the number 1 American when they arrive in London so he at the very least should play all of the clay tournaments that he has entered. It did him no justice last year to play one match on clay headed into the FO. He needs the match play at least to keep some type of momentum headed into Queens and Wimbledon.

Every win counts right now. So he needs to play more on clay thi year. I really hope he will do Madrid-Rome-Paris. Plus, I'm going to Madrid, so he better plays!

Pretty sure he'll do Madrid and Rome...I think he can make qrts(at least) in Madrid because the elevation helps his serve and he always seems to have some decent success in Rome. Then I mean, as long as he doesn't lose 1st or 2nd round in Paris he should be able to pickup some points.

Well, on paper he is capable of winning 2-3 wins in every tournament, but with Andy, you nver know.
The one and only thing I want is Andy to somehow manage to stay healthy to the end of the season. I get the feeling that he can't not stay healthy for more than 2-3 months now...The mono really did some damage |

Andy winning the French would be the funniest thing ever. No joke. I can honestly picture it and I'm cracking up with the thought.
Andy Roddick, 2011 French Open champion! It's all a part of the master plan and then he'll win Queens, Wimbledon and Davis Cup then he'll retire and have some adorable babies! |
Re: The "Clay is for Pots" 2011 Useless Clay Season Thread
He should use the next two months to bolster his confidence as much as he can heading into the grind of the grass court and North American hard court seasons. Sure, he could use points from the clay court season, but realistically he would be better off re-asserting himself as one of the best grass and hard court players in the world.

Andy needs to play on clay. Period. That's non-negotiable. He needs to get some match momentum. |

Remember in 2009 when Andy made the Wimbledon final and was playing unbelievable he had his best run ever at the French Open making the 4th round. Also, he played pretty friggin' good at Madrid too. These tournaments are important because confidence is confidence. He's got to start serving well, playing well and winning matches. I predict if he has a successful clay court season and makes a nice run at the FO he'll go far at Wimbledon and probably do well the rest of the summer. |

Well the Madrid Masters draw is out. A QF berth seems a possibility to me. And none other than Rafa Nadal will be lurking there if he gets to the QF. OUCH!
