 banana party. Seems like a decent player and it's interesting that outside of this tournament he has stuck largely to playing on the mens tour this year.

Re: Ben Mitchell's Banana Party

Another tennis player from the Gold Coast, Ben attended The Southport School with Bernard Tomic back in the day and along with Tomic the Gold Coast are certainly producing a lot of our future prospects i.e Bernard, Ben, Mav Banes, Alex Sanders, Jared Easton and of course Jason Kubler is from Brisbane. I'm not sure what it is but tennis players from south east Queensland just seem to be thriving on the tour.

It is not because we just gained an ATP tournament (although this will certainly help in the future) but something that I think Tennis Australia should really be supporting is the Pat Cash Tennis Academy. That place has produced Mav Banes, Jared Easton, Alex Sanders and even Monika Wejnert! just an unbelivable amount of talent at that club. Perhaps it is the climate of the Gold Coast that really helps players, A more consistantly warm climate helps them to acclimatise to conditions quicker? I'm not sure what it is but they are very good.

I played inter-school tennis there last year and the courts are fairly good and they do have something like twelve hard courts and one clay court but they are just really good. Anyway good luck to Ben next week in the AO WC Playoff, hopefully he can get a win or two and maybe progress to the quarters.

AO Maindraw Wildcard Playoff

Blue Group: Brydan Klein, Kaden Hensel, James Duckworth, Jason Kubler
Green Group: Nick Lindahl, James Lemke, Matt Reid, Ben Mitchell
Magenta Group: Greg Jones, John Millman, Dane Propoggia, Dane Kelly
Yellow Group: Bernard Tomic, Matthew Ebden, JP Smith, Kris Balakrishnan

He plays his first match against James Lamke today. Not a bad group, and a good run here could see him sneak in for a AO QWC. Good luck Ben.

Re: Ben Mitchell's Banana Party

He is 16 and will most likely play at the Aus Open qualies thanks mainly to the youth policy and he did play Brisbane Qualies but was beaten in straights by Joel Lindner.

Ben Mitchell is 17, 18 in November, a month younger than Bernard. I would say its about 50/50 chance of him playing Aus Open qualies although with the recent youth push by TA I'd say that 50/50 is now about 70/30 that he'll get one.

I really wish people would look at the draws before saying things. Ben Mitchell DID play Brisbane qualies, he lost in the first round to Joel Lindner 6-4 6-2. Ben doesn't even have a junior ranking anymore because he has been playing seniors for a while now, so unless TA want to give a wildcard to Ben he won't be playing Aus Open juniors this year. He is almost ranked inside the top 1000 now which isn't a bad effort and according to TA he needs to get into the top 750 soon otherwise they'll cut his funding.

Ben is actually tall enough to make a bit of a go on the seniors tour so I guess we'll see some more of Ben Mitchell in the years to come.

Oh yeah i forgot and how old in Lindner, well he player pretty well against Nick Lindahl he tested him in three sets. I hope Ben gets into the qualifying but i dont wont smeets to miss out he is a very good player when he is playing well and gets a few matches under his belt.

He is going to play Jan Minar in the first round of the AUS OPEN qualies, i hope he can win Mitchell, Duckworth and Saville have got good match ups, Berman isnt he American so why does it say AUS on the draw sheet.

Re: Ben Mitchell's Banana Party

I think he plays Arnaboldi which is one of the easier matchups that he could get. It will be an achievement for the young guys just to be competitive in their matches let alone winning them. Mitchell has the easiest matchup out of the four of them I think.

Berman is a wierd one. Born in South Africa went to NZ and was raised there and moved and represented America but bobbed up at a couple of Australian futures before participating in the national under 18's and now representing Australia in the Aus Open qualies draw. I just hope he is serious about representing Australia.

Ben won his first two matches at the Traralgon International Grade 1 juniors tournament. He defeated the would number 12 junior Kevin Krawietz in straight sets. Now plays Luke Saville for a spot in the Quarters
