Gael has a bye first round and a second round versus Reynolds or Golubev. :) He also plays doubles (:banana:) with Jim! First round against Karlovic and Zovko.

Good luck to Gael in the singles and Gael and Jim in the doubles!!! Lets hope Gael can take advantage of a reasonably good draw and do some damage at Queens

Was at this match yesterday, they actually played pretty well. Gael can be a good doubles player when he takes it seriously (the last time I saw him play doubles- he and Paulo were using it a bit like recreation, hence my impression of his doubles I guess :lol:). I suppose he was making a better effort since Chardy was already out of the singles. I think Gael was definitely the best player on the court, he played some great shots and volleyed well. There was also a bit of showboating from him, including attempting the "Hotdog" shot- between the legs. :lol: There was some good banter in the match too- I remember once in one of Karlovic's service games, they were both struggling to return the ball- and Gael's attempt had left him swinging at the air and the ball went right by him :rolls: so he turns to Jim and is like "You do better then" and then Karlovic's next serve to Jim was bouncing up really high, so Jim reached up and chipped it back beautifully and it at least made it over the net but unfortunately there was nothing on it and Zovko put away the next shot- but it was a pretty cute moment. Also they would ALWAYS pick Gael to return serve on those deciding point, reciever's choice moments- yet one time they stood and debated it for an absolute age before picking Gael again anyway! It was funny. I was thinking, "you know you're going to pick Gael anyway, just get on with it"- well I was freezing cold (horrid weather this week here), hence my impatience.

There were also some pretty funny moments due to bad line calls, in one game Jim/Gael got a point to go 30-30 on Zovko's serve when a FH from Jim was called in, even though it was clearly out. So Zovko/Ivo turned to the crowd and were like "That was out, wasn't that clearly out?" and the crowd were all saying it was out but the call stood. Then ironically later on MP there was another bad call, this time in the Croatian team's favour, where a ball that was in from Gael was called long to give the Croatians the match. Hence the amused expressions at the irony of the gifted point back in the final moments/handshake (pictures to come).

But yes, Gael looks in good form, hopefully he can have a good tournament in the singles here. :yeah:

As for Gaël's current match, I don't find him especially focused nor interested :o maybe he's just trying to see if the knee is holding well. But the yellow knee strap to match his shirt is making me :haha: after the green one during the double with Jerem to match the court and the black one at Roland... he's soo girly sometimes :angel:

Yeah I'm watching his match right now and it looks like he is trying to channel Santoro, it's really not working for him. All those dropshots on return and forehand slices, it's pretty weird.

edit : oops what happened? He wasn't injured at least?

stupid me looking high and low for a live stream and all the while the tournament is being broadcast on tv :o

edit: Wow, Golubev breaks back. The match is really awful at the moment, one UE after the other.

Exactly :haha:. The commentator was like "it's a really close match, both deserve to win it but only one will go through", and I was thinking "they really both deserve to lose, but one of them has to win somehow". It was really awful, but he got away with it, so I guess that's what matters :shrug:
