'Futures Player of the Year 2008' Thread [Accepting Nominations]

In response to the popularity of the 'Challenger Player of the Year' thread it seems totally necessary to even the balance and hold a 'Futures Player of the Year' award thread.

I'm going to throw the thread open to ideas and nominations to begin with and then hopefully narrow it down to a final 10 from which people can vote for via a poll system. [This won't appear until all 2008 Futures are completed and people have sufficient time to cast their vote based on any upcoming success stories..]

So, try and jog your memories of the previous year and pick out those players that have scored consistently at Future's level; whilst not overly venturing onto the Challenger circuit or higher [although a few appearances at this level are allowed].

Also don't forget that the player with the most titles doesn't necessarily warrant the title automatically, it's justifiable to look at players who have improved their ranking dramatically in 2008 [such as young up and coming players], those that have made comebacks at a later stage in their career, or those that have impressed upon returning from an injury/personal set-back.

I'm going to begin by nominating Leonardo Kirche, a Brazilian claycourter whose results I have followed for the last 6 months and who has risen up the rankings due to countless good performances in many of his home Futures.

Suggest away...

I didn't follow all of the tournaments good enough this year to make the right nominations, but from the German players I would say that Satschko and Begemann deserve a nomination.

I didn't really follow the futures, too. But I just noticed that Ricardo Hocevar won four futures and was runner up in two between february and june. In the second half of the year he went to the challengers though.

Kirche is a good choice, he really raised his game this year :yeah:

De Armas and Machado seem like obvius choices because of the number of titles.

Alexander Jakupovic. He didn't win any I don't think, but he played almost every week and would reach QF/SF/F most of the time, and won a lot in doubles.

Ok, what I'll do is, when it comes to compiling a final compilation of names I will include a mix of those that have done the best statistically along side some WC's - those that have been nominated in this thread.

Caio Brasil: Does that mean that I can list Kirche as having two nominations? ;)

Rui Machado should win, because he didn´t stop at futures tournaments. He kept winning, including challenger and ATP level, finishing the ear in the top 150.

Re: 'Futures Player of the Year 2008' Thread [Accepting Nominations]

The task is to nominate players, who were among the 10-15 most successful futures players of the year. Players like Paul or Jakupovic are ridiculous choices.

Re: 'Futures Player of the Year 2008' Thread [Accepting Nominations]

My nominations go to:

Yuichi Sugita
Gabriel Moraru
Nicolas Coutelot
Tomas Tenconi

De Armas won too many weak tournaments. Machado is a sure pick of course, but he'll make it even if I don't nominate him.
