Gilles can't play in Brisbane (05/01), he's signed up for the mix-teams Hopman Cup in Perth (03-09/01) alongside Alize Cornet.

Re: Calendar for 2009?

If he plays in Shanghai and needs more time then during the off-season, it shouldn't be a problem to find a substitute in Hopman Cup (that's how France ended up playing with Jérôme Haehnel 2 years ago).

I have no idea which events he's going to play, Felipe. The only one we know so far is the Hopman Cup indeed, but it was decided months ago when his situation was completely different. I'm not sure anymore he should play it.

Re: Calendar for 2009?

Hopman Cup is useless, it doesn't give any point... But the good thing is that he's sure to play at least 3 matches and since we know he needs a lot of matches to play well, that's not a bad preparation for the Australian Open.
But I would prefer him to play a small tournament and win it so he would take smoe points !

It still feels a bit weird to read "we are very excited to add the new French sensation Gilles Simon to the tournament line-up"!

I wonder if he will ? I've got the idea in my head that I might visit Bucharest this September :) I've looked at apartments and flights... anyone ever been there? Is it the sort of place that a feisty Scotswoman with no language other than english could go by herself? (I've been abroad before by myself and I'm not easily scared lol;))
Or does anyone here fancy sharing an apartment and stalking Gillou for a week?:devil::devil:

obviously as location i'm possibly a good choice, especially after the phrase "sharing an apartment and stalking Gillou for a week" sounds simply great to me.............
the only problem comes from my studies (i'm studying sociology) and i'm afraid that the tournament beginning will probably match with the time of the start of my studies (early september)

no i've never visited Romanian capital before (maybe because i've never have a desire to go there......)

but i'm from the balkans so it won't be a problem for me(us)....i think:shrug:

I'm well up for a wee adventure and I've found this gorgeous apartment overlooking the park where the BCR Open is held - I'll PM you the link Yavor :) Still room for more...
It's in early September :):):) Think of your tennis education :):):)

Re: Calendar for 2009?

Considering his ranking, he doesn't have many points at all to defend until after Wimbledon, so he could easily move up even further in the rankings. Especially against Tsonga, who is going to have a lot of trouble defending his Australian Open final, I think.
