The Singles Island in the Doubles Ocean - Singles activity of doubles specialists

There are several types of doubles players.

- players with both singles and doubles active carrer, collecting good results in both of them (like Jonas Bjorkman).
- players who at a certain point of carrer decide to concentrate in doubles, because the singles results are not so good (gap in the ranking), or because of the age, and sometimes play qualifying events and Davis Cup dead rubbers (like Martin Damm). These players can be called the doubles especialists and usually have a past decent singles carrer.
- players who at a point of carrer were peaking in doubles and decide to concentrate in singles (like Radek Stepanek).
- players who rarely play doubles, because are too busy with singles, but have some good results when playing doubles like in Davis Cup, big tournaments and home events (like Roger Federer).
- others? (contributions, please).

This thread has the intention to keep a track on the singles activity especially of the so-called "doubles especialists". In this thread we can discuss their results, the benefits of doubles to the singles playing, their relations and people can have a/some post(s) for their favourite(s) player(s) and I'll try to keep this first post updated with links to the posts dedicated to players- which can be edited by original poster as new results and facts are coming.

I've spent a lot of time making a profile of André Sá, but MTF bug made me lost all the work
Zero Service Unavailable :smash:
I'll update this post later with info about André Sá, I'm just not on the mood of doing all the same again - and try to save what I write before clicking "submitt message"

yes, but also it made me think how long it was (it had his first Challenger title, ATP début, GS début and all highlights of his singles career, I better do something smaller next time) :o

If you want, I can leave Melo to you ;)
I have others players I would like to "pay a tribute" :p

Edu, the Voo of the doubles Forum :rocker2:

No need to do a Melo. As I said he hardly plays Singles.

I think that into the first category are my 2 favorite doubles team Clement/Llodra and Lopez/Verdasco all great in singles and doubles

This weekend we have Bruno Soares, Scherrer and Polasek playing qualies in Lyon, Basel and St. Petersburg. In Challengers, Dusan Karol is playing qualies in Seoul. :)

OK, so he might have replaced (WC) Nedelko as alternate.

Frantisek would have a decent ranking in singles if playing more these events. When he was suspended by ATP for few weeks, because of gambling, he played a futures (ITF event) and won the title :)

just checked his career high in singles was 201(Oct 2003), but he always do quite well when plays ATP events, by qualifying and playing close matches with the "singles specialists" :p

Toribete, I would add to that list: singles players who play doubles when they feel like it like Roddick and Ginepri this week in Lyon

Mirnyi was a player of the first category and now belongs to the second, it seems.
