Top spin serves can kick or not, depends on how much spin you put on them. It's like a shot. It can bounce high if you put a lot of spin or lower if you hit flatter. :)

Re: Kick Serve = Top Spin ???

There are many versions of top spin serves American Twist is hit from behind the head from low to high(known for it's High Bounce)because the racquet is usually flat. A top spin serve hit from low to high scraping the ball in front of you with a slanted racquet is a top spin serve that kicks out after the bounce and stays low when it bounces. A person can cause both serves to bounce high or low based on the angle of the racquet at point of contact.

To answer your question. NO, they are not the same.

Topspin serves bounce up.

Kick serves bounce to the side.

Now, for a little extra comment: Even though they are considered two different types of serves, they will still cross each others boundaries. Its not like comparing topspin and slice (where one is OBVIOUSLY nothing like the other). The topspin and kick will be similar in several respects. I wont go into why and how because you were really asking for that!

yes the two would consider the same thing just that kick would be a more extreme sop spin serve

on both serves you brush up the back of the ball from 7 to 1 o'clock assuming you are right handed

Re: Kick Serve = Top Spin ???

What are you guys talking about... Kick serve typically refers to any serve that has spin, generally ones that use topspin. The term kick serve is usually just a broad term for a serve that uses topspin, whether it be twist, topspin, etc. Some people consider the slice serve also under the category of kick serve, but for the most part kick serve = any serve that uses at least some topspin.
