Josselin Ouanna

I didn't see any thread for him, so if there is one already just delete this. I don't know much about him, but I saw him play doubles today with Monfils. He is ranked 500 in the world at age 21, but he played at a top 100 level today. Monfils-Ouanna beat Ljubo-Bracciali 6-2, 7-5.

:woohoo: Well done!

His results were followed inside the former thread for Jo Tsonga, Gaël and him... But we should have made a thread for him. Maybe people thought that since Jo now had his own thread and Gaël, his forum that the left thread was his... But Marine t=didn't change its title so...

Good idea to open this thread! :yeah:

PS: You're in RG?

I agree with you !

When you see that now Gremelmayr reach semi-finals in Barcelona and Estoril, it's a great performance for sure !

But this week Josselin lost against Kamke 2/6 3/6 in Tunis :o

Re: Josselin Ouanna

It was a nice fight indeed against Martin (2-6, 6-3, 7-5), I hope he qualifies and plays on a showcourt, I've never seen him play!

There was an article about him in L'Equipe yesterday:
Quote:

Moi, Josselin Ouanna
FRÉDÉRIC BERNÈS
He beat Elgin in 38 minutes only in the 1st round!
He's a bit fed up people always compare him with Jo and Gaël, but the question is inevitable. He's 22 years old, lost in the AO Juniors final to Monfils in 2004, is now #227 and hasn't played one single match on the main tour yet. Why?
Potier, his coach, tells him that if he wasn't such an idiot, he would be at the same level as them. "He means that I sometimes have the wrong attitude on the court. I've wondered for a long time if I really belonged there and as soon as I had to play a better-ranked guy, I was blowing it out of proportion. I don't have the self-confidence of Jo and I could never have broken through as fast as Gaël did. I'm neither Jo nor Gaël. To each his own. The question is getting boring... If my turn comes in 2 or 3 years only, it's fine for me."
His turn will come if he stops getting injured all the time. In 3 years, he had "13 or 14 tears of the adductors, 3 or 4 of the psoas and 6 or 7 of the harmstring muscles". He rather looks like a "strapping fellow" at first (more Tsonga style), but he has very long muscles and a very weak area around the pelvis. So he was told one year ago to stop any work-out of the lower body. And so far, it works. "I've only had the usual small injuries lately and I'm feeling like a new man. I really was considering a retirement when I was getting injured all the time (he retired 11 times in matches between Oct. 2004 and Oct. 2006). But I like the game too much and Jo's story did me so good. He hung on despite of his hernia and you know what he has achieved since then."

A very nice article about Joss in L'Equipe today.

Potier (his coach): "Joss used to be very tall and stupid. Now he's still very tall, but he's clever."
1,92 m, 90 kg, his stiff attitude on the court and his haircut remind of Blake. Very good technique, his one-handed BH has "become a weapon", a "huge" FH and a 200 km/h serve. An allrounder. Which also is his problem, he has all the shots and it's not always easy to pick the right one then.
People said he was more talented than Gaël when they were young (everybody is more talented than Gaël!) and it was tough for him to see his buddies Jo and Gaël rise in the ranking. That frustration and the many injuries explain he hasn't done much yet. But it might be the right time for him according to Potier. Very cool guy, well-mannered, a nice lad.
Potier put the emphasis on the body building, which helped his game a lot. And it also helped his career since that's how he got the WC for Lyon - Moretton was in the gym of RG some time ago while Joss was there and he found him so nice that he decided to give him a WC this year.

Re: Josselin Ouanna

I also like how Jo and Gilles talk about him.
Jo: Joss is a "big teddy bear" - he takes the accent of the "Antilles": "cool down, cool down, we've got plenty of time" -, never gets worked up, likes having a nap. Like Jo. Always friendly, a nice guy, quite a good sense of humour too. He's talented, his FH is a "bomb". Can do a lot of things on the court and vary the game nicely. "I'm not surprised to see him there, I was rather wondering what he was waiting for! I guess he realizes now it's not the Everest either. Maybe this tournament will get something nice going."

Gilles: very happy that he's finally breaking through since Joss plays very well and deserves it. Rather an attacking player, very good serve and able to follow his serve at the net since the return often is too short. "We often practice together, everytime I take a look at his results the next week then and I don't understand how he lost against the number #600 or #400. It shows tennis is mainly a mental thing. He needs to be confident to play well. I think he had put up a few barriers in his mind and he's removing them one by one. To each his own path."

Josse is replacing Mahut at the $$Masters France$$ according to l'Equipe (he should have been the first substitute anyway instead of Llodra), it starts tomorrow, he's in the group of G. Simon, J. Benneteau and M. Gicquel.
