Illini had a up and down season but it ended well with a Big Ten championship and NCAA Sweet Sixteen. Seems that there are lots of good recruits coming in for next year so it should be very interesting!
The Illini lose their top two players but have a great class coming in next year. It was ranked No. 6 in the country before they added 5-star Julian Childers so it may be even higher. Should be an interesting season.
Several Illini are involved in tournaments this week. Innisbrook Futures is still in the qualifying rounds but Gosea defeated Bazarnik in the final of a USTA event today.
Thanks for the updates, and go Illini! I used to love going to home matches at the U of I, and would love to see us get back to where we were during Craig Tiley's days.
The Illini guys have been pretty busy. A few of past (Ruben, Nevolo, DeHeart), present (Hoh, Abdelnour, Kopinski, Gosea) and future (Hiltzik, Page, Jesse, Bazarnik) have been involved in USTA events and Futures. Ruben Gonzales won the Indian Harbour Beach doubles event a couple weeks ago. Gosea won a USTA event in St Louis. Hiltzik won a wildcard into the Innisbrook event.
At Wimbledon, Kevin Anderson unfortunately lost in the 1st round of both the singles and mixed, but Rajeev Ram is still in the doubles tournament. He'll play a third round match on Monday.
August was a pretty good month for the Illini. Former Illini Rowe, Gonzales, Roelofse all won titles on the Futures Circuit, Ram got a wild card into the US Open main draw, Hiltzik got a wildcard into the US Open juniors. Anderson had a rough month though. 4-match losing streak.
Four Illini are playing in the Audi Napa Valley Classic on the west coast and two Illini are playing in the UVa Ranked +1 Invitational on the east coast this weekend September 21-23. Go Illini!
The Illini go five wins and two losses today. Abdelnour, Hiltzik and Childers all won their matches in Virginia. In California, Gosea and Page won while Hoh and Kopinski were defeated.
During Saturday's football game at Memorial Stadium, the Illini tennis team were recognized for their 2012 Big Ten championship and presented with their championship rings. Congratulations to the team!
