Polish No. 7 seeds Marcin Matkoswki and Mariusz Fyrstenberg (pictured) advanced to the final of the Mutua Madrilena Masters Madrid for the second straight season after saving three match points to defeat South African eighth seeds Jeff Coetzee and Wesley Moodie 6-7(4), 7-6(5), 12-10 on Saturday.
Fyrstenberg and Matkowski finished runners-up to Bob and Mike Bryan in the final last season and are through to their first ATP Masters Series final since then. In the quarterfinals on Friday they edged past second seeds and Wimbledon champions Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic also in a match tie-break.
The Poles began the week at No. 9 in the Stanford ATP Doubles Race with 307 points, 17 points behind Marcelo Melo and Andre Sa in eighth position. They are bidding to win their second title from five finals this season. They triumphed in Warsaw and finished runners-up at Barcelona, Bucharest and Metz. They have a 32-23 match record on the season.
In the final they will face either No. 5 seeds Jonas Bjorkman and Kevin Ullyett or fourth seeds Mahesh Bhupathi and Mark Knowles.
