Just looked at the points Bester has to defend until the end of the year and it's 73 points from next week till Jan 1. So lets hope he starts playing again or his ranking will also take a big tumble.
So it looks like Bester isn't even signing up for tournaments in October so I'm thinking he will probably call it a season and use his protected ranking starting in January. Once all his points come off by January he should be ranked out of the top 500.
just curious, when did Bester play last? Would he be eligible for a PR(need 6 months off I think) and would he be eligible for it to use in AO qualies(if he wanted to go, and would it even be good enough to get in), and what would that PR be?
Well it depends if Davis Cup counts, if it does then it's July 8. If it doesn't then it's June 27. Either way, I'm not sure it's worth his time or money to have his first tournament back to be a Grand Slam event. His protected ranking would be about 245.
ok July 8 + 6 months is January 8, so he would be eligible for one for the AO is he wanted to go, and 245 would likely get him in.
I know it wouldn't make much sense, to travel all the way down there likely to lose quickly as it's his first tournament back, but I was curious if that was even an option, thanks
Looking through the entry lists (ATP/ITF) for January, Bester isn't listed anywhere so it looks like he is still recovering/training. One good point about this is he now qualifies for a protected ranking of about 250-260 when he returns.
Phil is playing the Vero Beach clay Futures, just took out last years French Open junior champ Fratangelo 26, 64, 63, up next could be Lemke.
