23 Feb 2010 Player nominations announced for World Group
The player nominations have been submitted ahead of the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group first round ties, being played from 5-7 March.
SERBIA v USA
Details
Dates: 5-7 March
Venue: Belgrade Arena, Serbia
Surface: Indoor clay
Serbia
Players: Novak Djokovic, Viktor Troicki, Janko Tipsarevic, Nenad Zimonjic
Captain: Bogdan Obradovic
USA
Players: John Isner, Sam Querrey, Mike Bryan, Bob Bryan
Captain: Patrick McEnroe
I think Isner can defeat Troicki or Tipsarevic. Considering the Bryans will win, this will be decided in the 5th rubber between Querrey and Troicki/Tipsarevic
considering the way Djokovic and Querrey played recently, and the fact that Querrey lost 7-6 in third set to Gonzalez in Acapulco after just coming from his victory in Memphis whereas Djokovic will just arrive on clay with all the mental problems he showed last week,
I don't think it's impossible at all that Querrey gives many problems to Djokovic on first day.
Djokovic will beat Isner, but the Bryans are favorite, and the other matches are winnable for the USA. Serbia is favorite but I don't think this match is done yet.
For serbia, i think it's not easy to choose Troicki or Tipsarevic for the second match. i think Troicki could have his chance. Last year match of Tipsarevic on clay against Nadal was terrible. For doubles, they have good options. Zimonjic is intouchable and he can play with the three other players. But as the the double USA team is a special one, i would have tryed a special one too for the serbians : Zimonjic and Vemic. they ofetn played together in the beginning of their carreer and Vemic play actually good. And he is pretty good on clay.
To take Vemic, the Serbian coach should put one of Troicki and Tipsarevic out of the team for the weekend. MAny ppl seem forgetting that in the end, there are only 4 players in a team.
SERBIA v USA

Viktor Troicki (SRB) v John Isner (USA)
Novak Djokovic (SRB) v Sam Querrey (USA)
Janko Tipsarevic/Nenad Zimonjic (SRB) v Bob Bryan/Mike Bryan (USA)
Novak Djokovic (SRB) v John Isner (USA)
Viktor Troicki (SRB) v Sam Querrey (USA)
While I’m no fan of Davis Cup, this one should be interesting and I’ll definitely be tuning in to see how the American upstarts fare against Djokovic & Co.
Rubbers:
Troiki vs. Isner
Djokovic vs. Querrey
Tipsarevic / Zimonjic vs. Bryan / Bryan
Djokovic vs. Isner
Troiki vs. Querrey
Will the Americans get their asses handed to them yet again on European clay? … Or is there a possible upset in store? [and interestingly, the U.S. and Serbia have never met in Davis Cup action.]
Serbia should prevail, but I doubt it would be as straightforward as that. Bryans are favorites for the doubles IMO and Querrey can win over Troicki. I don't see them pulling off the third, though
The US could actually win this. Querrey and Isner are perfectly capable of both beating Troicki, and the Bryans have to be the clear favorite in the doubles match.
The real problem is just that its on slow clay, and the US is fielding two serve reliant singles players. On another surface, I'd almost favor the US to win 3-2 based on beating Troicki twice and winning doubles. But on clay, I gotta say 4-1 or 3-2 Serbia are the most likely outcomes.
The tie would possibly be more interesting if Troicki-Querrey was the first match on Sunday, as that would make the decisive fifth rubber scenario more likely. As it is, it's likely to be over before that match
