The new record of the most games in the 5th set!
Previous record - Wimbledon 1985:
H.Gunthardt / B.Taroczy - P.Annacone / C.Van Rensburg 6-4 2-6 6-4 6-7(4) 24-22

It's also the new record of the most games played - 102!
Don't know about match time: record for doubles in a Grand Slam event is/was 6 hours 9 minutes (Knowles/Nestor def. Aspelin/Perry 5-7 6-3 6-7(5) 6-3 23-21

How many MP's did they save?

Brazilian duo won a long match in the 1st round as well. After 3 hours 21 minutes they beat Benneteau/Mahut 6-7 6-3 7-6 2-6 6-3. What an amazing tournament for them :)

From atptennis.com

The previous record for the most number of games in a Wimbledon men’s doubles match was 98, set in 1966, when American Eugene Scott and Niki Pilic of Yugoslavia ousted American Cliff Richey and Torben Ulrich of Denmark 19-21, 12-10, 6-4, 4-6, 9-7.

5:58h ?

It was the second longest match in duration in Wimbledon history, falling just 11 minutes short of the all-time record set in 2006 when Mark Knowles and Daniel Nestor beat Simon Aspelin and Todd Perry 5-7, 6-3, 6-7, 6-3, 23-21.

BBC said 6:13

I need a help from Portuguese speakers. I don't know Portuguese but from this text I've understood they saved 4 match points:
- first yesterday before the rain break
- second at 18:17
- third and fourth at 21:20

Pleas read it and correct me if I'm wrong: :)

What I found and nothing is pretty much the same, but anyway.

July/98 - Yugoslávia vs. Portugal - 2/3. QF's, clay, outdoors. and that would be all.

but you know, Melvins has a website about Portuguese tennis. I don't really have the time now cause I'm working and a bit busy, sorry, but in his signature he has a link to it. Maybe he has something more there. ;)

Sa said after the match: “Physically we are not too bad, but mentally it's tough playing one doubles match over five days. Today in the fifth set we were under severe pressure as we were always serving to stay in the match.”

They were serving to stay in the match 22 times (!) in all. Today 13 times.

“With so much pressure in the match it was nice to get it over with finally. From the warm-up we tried to keep the intensity high and keep the intensity going out there.”

During their post-match press conference, Sa and Melo were still unsure whether they had broken any record at The Championships. Upon receiving confirmation that they had, they high-fived each other and Sa said: “28-26. You don’t see that very often. I wouldn’t mind going through that again. As long as we win, it’s OK.”

And he revealed that one of the first people who congratulated them was Andy Roddick, who had just completed his match on Centre Court and raced over to them after seeing their score flash up on the screens in the locker room.

Melo revealed that the match was only the second time in his career that he had played a five-set match and added: "It was a great match, it's fantastic."

Throughout the match the battling Brazilians were supported courtside by their countryman, three-time French Open champion Gustavo Kuerten.

Sa said: “We were lucky to have Gustavo Kuerten here with us. Guga watched the game and gave us some help with the match and also gave us the confidence to believe we can go out there and win. With results like this he might get a full-time coaching job, but we think he will probably be too expensive!”

Melo also won his mixed doubles match with Tamira Paszek, they beat Martin Damm and Michaella Krajicek. Hopefully both Sa/Melo and Melo/Paszek can go far in their tournaments. :D

The Brazilians needed 7 match points to reach Quarter Final after another amazing match :worship:

1 J.Benneteau/N.Mahut..... 6-7(3) 6-3 7-6(6) 2-6 6-3
2 P.Hanley/K.Ulyett........... 5-7 7-6(4) 4-6 7-6(7) 28-26
3 C.Kas/A.Peya................ 6-4 6-7(6) 7-6(2) 6-7(9) 6-4
Q M.Knowles/D.Nestor

* Against Kas/Peya was 5:2 (30-30) in the 4th set, then MP at 6:5 (40-30) and two another MP's at *6:5 & 9:8 in the tie-break! But another 5-set win, simply taste better! Kas/Peya in the last game came back from 0:40 down to deuce

Impressive scorelines in three consecutive matches!
The Marathon Guys, you're the legend of Wimbledon (!!!) now go to the final!
:rocker2: :rocker2:
