I think it's about time for David to have his own thread :p
And I'm sure that someday he will have his own forum too :)
I think he has such a beautiful game and he has so much potential! I'm sure he will move up in the rankings this year. :yeah:

He's playing some great tennis this week in Chennai and just reached the QF's.

ATP Chennai:

1R: (WC) David Goffin def. Xavier Malisse 4-6 6-2 6-3
2R: (WC) David Goffin def. Andreas Becker 4-6 6-4 6-2
QF: (WC) David Goffin vs Janko Tipsarevic

Good luck against Tipsarevic! :yeah:

Re: David Goffin Cheering Thread

He's on the entry list for London. What's he like on grass? I've only seen him play on hardcourt and clay so I have no idea.
I think he should love grass court bcoz of he's games style service well, punch the ball hard

Re: David Goffin Cheering Thread

David is such a lovable, class act! I've been following - rather trailing his game since Chennai last year. Finally, he just BOOMED into prominence, which means I get to see more of him LIVE on Tour.

Welcome to the top 100, David! Hope you bring your best to the court each time you play. This will all be new terrain for you, it no longer being the Challenger circuit. The margins for error will be reduced to inches, you will require endurance, stamina, and mental fortitude. But the great thing is you will play the players from the top level and you will know what it takes to compete with them. May your mind grow sharper, quicker; may your footwork stay nimble and your hand-eye coordination always follow your pure, focused mind. So keep a calm mind and practice a lot. Put all your alternate career aside now and single-mindedly focus on tennis because you have the seeds of a Champion in you.

Come forth and shine in the Sun! Looking forward to watching more of you now that you are on tour. Yippee! :woohoo:

Re: David Goffin Cheering Thread

^if not the sponsors will b pounding on his door now!!
Sponsors will of course be important to keep him financed in the tour level. But I am equally interested to see if he decides on a good tour-level tier-1 coach, to open his mind to the finer strategies employed at that level of play. I hope his old coach does not mind. Unless the Goblin prefers to stay with the same coach (emotional ties and all), then he'd better be prepared to work a lot harder at finding out how to beat players at the top, because no one will hand out these lessons for free. Of course, even that is possible, seeing how he took off a set from Roger himself.

Re: David Goffin Cheering Thread

sorry for being late guys

anyway, i wont do a full translation, i'll give a basic run down

The author of the article basically says it didnt look like david would be able to play the olympics but because of his good run here now he has that option. They also say that david would be the only rep for belgium at the olympics. The author says he has a good shot at it because of his performance here and he does meet the requirements otherwise.

there's a small interview with david and his coach where david says that he will of course go if he's invited. He mentions he wants to prepare for the grass season, he'll try to prepare well for it

his coach mentions his schedule and how it would change if he gets to play at the olympics

But he has out of both first week grass tour. Is there any chances that he got a wildcard from Halle?

Re: David Goffin Cheering Thread

His next tournament will be Wimbledon quallies unless he gets a WC, then he'll play Rosmalen first.

And yeah, that girl in his box was his girlfriend. Pretty girl :D
Why don't he play any lead up tour?

Re: David Goffin Cheering Thread

he got the wild card into wimbledon:)

hopefully now he can get in somewhere else so he can get some practice on grass
Thanks for this is excellent news! :woohoo:

One question, Misty, is he playing any build-up tourney on grass before that? Even Challenger? He's neither in Halle or Queens this week.

Needs to get his feel on grass...
