In tennis, you often get players who are hyped to the moon by everyone, but you don't see what the big deal is. You often get players who are rated higher than you think they should be.

So which players are over-rated or over-hyped on this forum in your opinion?

Explainations to back up your arguments would be good :yeah:

Ferrer - no explanations needed.

Goffin - has done nothing of any note at the ATP level at 22yo and yet is hyped to be a future Slam winner. Maybe reaching a 250 final first wouldn't be such a bad idea.

Rosol - yes, he beat Nadal, but that's all he did. His game is too erratic to ever be more than a low level ATP player.

You really are dumb. Not one of these three is truly overhyped.

Ferrer: Not overrated at all, because no one here expects him to win slams or even reach a slam final. People have realistic expectations of him, which you have a problem with because you so obviously UNDERrate him. This is the deal: you think Ferrer is too LIKED on this forum - but that is hardly the same thing.

Goffin: Same thing here. I haven't seen anyone hyping him, I've only heard said that he's one of the more talented youngsters - which is true. If your problem with him is that he has not yet achieved anything then the same goes for Tomic, Dimitrov etc. (Both of which are more "hyped", I would say.)

Rosol: Wrong yet again. The only reason he is mentioned as often as he is, is not because people expect great things from him but because mentioning his name is a very effective strategy for provoking sensitive Nadaltards who have basically sworn to hate him forever for that one Wimbledon match.

Nalbandian by a mile. He has been overrated for the past 8 yeasrs because of his h2h against Fed (even though 5 out of his 8 wins came before Roger won his first slam and from 2003 onwards Federer has routined him 90% of the time).
Nalfatian has no serve, no consistency, no athleticism he has been subject to many surprise losts in major tournaments and has got just 1 GS final 10 years ago, yet people still think he is a dark horse to win something big.

LOL. At least check your facts before typing. 3 wins were before Federer's first slam. And although he didn't have a slam he was already an established player.

And he was far from routining him 90% of the time. Some matches could've gone either way like Rome 2006, RG 2006 when Nalbandian was leading before getting injured, MC 2005 at the RR, AO 2004.

Anyway, on topic. A lot of "youngsters" from the new generation. That aren't really that young and have achieved NOTHING. Tomic, Dimitrov, Harrison, Goffin, Janowicz (one good tournament only, and in dubious circumstances), Klizan and to a lesser extent Raonic. And although I like them Dolgopolov and Nishikori should really start proving what they have because they're not getting any younger.

how can a player that has won a slam be 'overhyphed'? I mean Del Potro will almost certainly (barring serious injury) win another slam so I don't agree with that, strange multiple votes towards him. that would be liike saying midway or really at any point in Andy Roddick's career he was 'overhyped', if you consistantly go deep in tournaments and win a # of titles you deserve a degree of hype. Del Potro also can't be overhyped now because he is past the hype stage, since he's already won

I agree ROsol is overhyphed but that is obviously somewhat in humor by the people around here much like 'Warloq' and other players.

overhyped IMO =

Berankis : I've heard so many people say they think he'll be something but he's been very much underwhelming

Tomic : I actually personally DO believe that Tomic willl have massive success in a few years BUT the Australian media and so many sources have claimed him as the next big thing a little too early and a little too fast. jinx much?

Berdych : the Berdych train is on/off, but it just gets old hearing people from to time claiming he'll make the breakthrough and win a big event, it won't happen, his brain is mush in pressure moments

Rosol isn't really overrated, nobody expected he'll do anything after the Wimbledon win. Goffin perhaps among the present ones, also Nishikori, Raonic, Dimitrov. Among the older players probably Nalbandian and Safin (one would think he has 17 slams and Fed 2 by the hype he gets).

Raonic, Ballbasher Nation, Dimitrov

#27 ·
Over-rated : ballbashers in general
Under-rated : so-called "pushers"
More like the other way round. Pushers (Ferrer, Gasquet and co.) are way overrated.

every living mug on pusher nation is way overrated in this forum, specially their queen, Mandy Mugray

all the guys on my signature have reached GS finals and even win some, so not overrated at all =)

I'm not sure about that

Andrew Murray OBE aka Dumblane Dynamo
1 slam, 4 finals, 8 Masters, 3 WTF SFs

Ballbasher Nation (Del Potro, Mugbych, Tsonga)
1 slam, 2 finals, 2(?) Masters, 1'WTF F

Okay your right  OBE wins.
