Tennis is a great sport and it definitely attracts a segment of eccentric characters, you know, the raging maniacs who scream and smash racquets, the old timer who refuses to stop using his wood racquets, there are all kinds of quirky kooky characters who play tennis.

I played a guy who used to scream COME AWNN at the top of his lungs, 15 x a match, playing like a nut like there is a million dollars on the line and it's only a nothing league.

Okay let's hear some of your stories of oddball tennis players from your local area.

THis article shares some good examples, I would like to read more like this. This could potentially be a very fun topic :)

I played a guy from central connecticut state university at a college tourney @ yale. He tried to be john isner...... This guy litterally wore the same hat, socks, shoes, shorts, even the same color shirt isner wears sometimes he even tried to do the serve....hardly ever worked lol. Anyways I had injured my shoulder earlier in the tourney and couldn't serve like I usually do... went down 1-3 brought it back to 3-5 before I was broken again because I could literally only serve lolipops, I haven't been able to serve for real in a week, and I have a match agianst fairfield U coming up in 2 weeks

Unique characters on court? I would like to think I'm one :p absolutely furious one second over a menial point, laughing over a big point the next and quiet for the rest of the match.

But anyways, it is always interesting to play players who make absolutely no emotion whatsoever. I mean not a single "come on," not a single angry look on their face, not a single smile, etc. I don't know, it is always strange playing those players.

When I was just starting off, we had a for fun tournament in a local city. A guy we were watching kept yelling "COME ON," but the way he said it made it sound like "HAM BONE." From then on, all the guys on our tennis team would yell "HAM BONE" to each other for encouragement.

Our high school team had all kinds of quirky sayings, just little things we found funny, like turning to a partner in doubles and saying "Sack lunch!" and making eating motions/sounds after an overhead bounced over a fence, things like that. I'm sure other people thought we were weird as heck :D

Today I saw something really strange - a player who plays only forehand. He serves with the right hand and then he plays with both hands and always forehand. He's doing it pretty good. It seemed really strange to me. Maybe it will be interesting to play against someone like him :D
