Rest up soldier!!!!! Amazing stuff. :worship:
Go back to your original job Monfils. You're better off with children's birthday parties.

It's hilarious that people are hailing Simon as a spartan and highlighting how much of a herculean effort this was. It's his own fault for hitting useless shots down the middle of the court and artificially making rallies 5 times longer than necessary.

Looks like people there watching the match appreciated the players much more than MTF

I know it's shocking, but it seems like at the AO, there are real tennis fans who are watching the matches (which was also noticable earlier in teh tourney when they applauded Monaco for his effort) You don't see too many of those posting here in GM.

Watched the end of the 4th set and beginning of the 5th.
Outrageous :haha:

Monfils once again proving he's the most brainless and plain stupid player on tour as he didn't have a clue how to play against physicaly wasted Simon who was serving 130 km/h first serves in. Standing meters behind the baseline, waiting for the ball to come to him and feeding Simon with perfect balls to hit at. :stupid: I think he's more focused on providing fun and drama then winning a match nicely and simply like a true professional.

I'm very happy for Gilles. What a man, what a warrior. :worship:
Muzza must be happy with this result too...

Those two should not be allowed to play together again. If I want to download that match I would find it under Horror or Humour.

 @ "They didn't need much rest between points because they were napping during the points."

But seriously is the 25 second rule also enforced in slams?

The best part of this match was Monfils having a coca-cola during a changover late in the fifth set

Shame he lost but good first Slam after injury problems and he remains as entertaining as ever :yeah:

Good riddance to Clownfils. Didn't matter if Simon is tired or fresh, he is Murray's mini-me AKA Murray will always beat Simon.

would be better if Monfils won here as he has more chances against Mandy and has a solid attacking game and better serve. Simon has zero chance, especially after 5 sets.

Come back Davide Sanguinetti, all is forgiven.

What a brutal pushfest that was. It was like the battle of the walking dead out there. These two should never be allowed to play each other ever again. Simon is always boring but the amazing thing was Monfils had one of the most entertaining matches of the 1st week vs Dolgopolov.

While I thought Gilles played well for the first two sets, (the match got bad once Gilles got injured mid third set) the reason they usually play this way against each other is the match-up. Gael knows Gilles loves pace so he loops the ball to not give Gilles any pace and then because Gilles can't create his own pace he ends up pushing the ball back as well so it ends up a battle of wills as to who blinks first. That said, I have no idea why Gael didn't change his game plan once it was clear Gilles couldn't move.
