Has there been a thread already? Monfils a wildcard as well. Only played there once his whole career and lost the first round he played, but I doubt that will be the case this time.
MONACO, Monaco - Seventh-ranked Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina has been given a wild card into the Monte Carlo Masters this month.
Tournament director Zeljko Franulovic announced the decision on Tuesday, having recently awarded a wild card to Frenchman Gael Monfils, whose ATP ranking has dropped to No. 104 after a year affected by knee injuries.
Novak Djokovic will play in the April 13-21 clay-court tournament. The top-ranked Serb lost last year's final to Rafael Nadal, who will be bidding for his ninth straight Monte Carlo title.
Third-ranked Roger Federer is skipping the event, but No. 2 Andy Murray, No. 4 David Ferrer and No. 6 Tomas Berdych will compete.
My first post ever, be gentle with me here. But it's him and Monfils, I just forgot to mention that in the title. Plus it's a bit remarkable just because he basically never goes to MC.
potentially Murray, Del Potro, Djokovic, Nadal, Ferrer all playing Monte Carlo
funny how the tournament is often criticized for its field but this year has a very good one and much better than, say, Miami
P.S. insane that Nadal has won it 8 times in a row, torn between wanting him to extend the record, or someone new to win. would be exciting for a change of the guard but also insane to the max if Rafael won it this many times consecutive
Well, not to disagree or anything, but the only big difference between the draws, on paper, is the absence of Nadal from Miami, since Federer is playing neither. 8 top 10 vs 9. Also Nishikori isn't playing here, if that means anything.
