I didn't watch the match but followed the livescoring, totally strange Monaco got beat so badly by a guy ranked what, 70 something? anyone watch it live? Juan injured or Kuznetsov just play great?
He had a back injury, and was also nursing a hand injury he got during the off-season. He also seemed like he didn't care that much, he was going very quickly between points he wasn't even bouncing the ball anymore. IF you have watched him before he bounces the ball a lot. He should have just skipped the Australian Open and gave it to someone that is fit enough to play. He was contemplating on not playing in the AO.
Two breadsticks is not something to be proud of. Monaco blew it, but luckily for him, last year he was also eliminated in Round 1, so, not such a big deal.
There are no words to describe Kuznetsov's luck. Only 3rd Top-100 win over the last 52 weeks win for him -- two of them came via retirements and now he "beats" injured Monaco.
I guess the AO crowd on show court 2 have a different opinion as he receive an ovation from the crowd because he finished the match rather than retiring, everyone in the crowd knew that he was not in any condition to continue specially on those last 2 sets. despite losing he got more supporters.
Well at least he didn't retire due to heat or maybe just cause he was losing. He could have retired with a valid reason. unlike some other in their career.
Monaco was injured, he couldn't play a single match this year because of the same injure. He should't come to AO, now, he won't be able to play DC most probably.
It was actually a different injury he missed due to a hand injury, In AO it was back injury.
