Re: Commentary at its best

I thought the Davis Cup Radio commentary was quite funny and sometimes during an exciting point or an important moment I felt as if I was listening to a soccer match! During the Safin-Acasuso match, Acasuso has just broken for 4-2 in the 2nd set and the crowd is going crazy:

"Andreas Egli is asking for some peace and quiet so that the 2 players can get it on." (I don't know if it's just me but I found that hilarious :p)

I also liked that they were reading comments and questions from fans sent by email. Apparently, there was an email from Roger Federer too.

Another fan was asking the commentators if they took advantage of their stay in Moscow to learn a bit of Russian. After blurting a couple of words one of the commentators says "Njet" and then the other one:

"Njet is what we've been getting a lot of." :haha:

DC radio commentary is funny.

Re: Commentary at its best

They get their facts wrong quite a bit, but funny enough DC radio.

Bazza Cowan he is all class.

Re: Commentary at its best

They made a mess out of the Nalbandian-Davydenko match confusing the names (because of Nalby's first name I suppose)

Oh, it seems that Rafael Nadal just sent an email wondering what his agent is doing in Moscow. :haha:

Have to agree the DC commentators were great fun - especially when they were describing some of the points and ending up in tandem saying 'the best point of the weekend' that cracked me up.

Re: Commentary at its best

Some more:

-There's Safin's mother sitting at the edge of her seat. I think she looks like Judy Dench.
- She looks more like Tarpischev to me. :spit:

"Boris Yeltsin is now making his way to the court. He wants a hug too."
:haha: It was weird cause I was reading about Casino Royale when they said that.

Boris always wants a hug - he's Russias fanboy :secret: But especially Marats

Re: Commentary at its best

Bill Threlfall comes out with some absolute classic stuff.

Favourite quote was 'he always plays with a smile on his face, win or lose' when commenting on Gonzo. That's right Bill, he always smiles when he destroys a racket every other match. Only the previous day he had lost it in the 3rd set against Djokovic.

Others:

- At 3-3 and 15-40 in the Almagro/Bjorkman match, Billy says: "here are a couple of set points".

- Almagro hits a serve which is called out and Almagro challenges the call using Hawkeye. Threlfall says: "I'll put my whole house on this being called in". Next few seconds Hawkeye shows the ball a few inches out.

-Billy: "Whats he like on clay (Davydenko), iv never seen him play on clay...."

Mark: "hes won 5 titles on clay and a 3 time finalist".

-'And Djokovic levelling it up at 5-4'

Not to mention the stats he comes out with. 'The winner of the 1st point in the tiebreak wins it 80% of the time'

Flemming and Cowan are constantly correcting him

Re: Commentary at its best

Fred Stolle at his best.

- Complaining at the amount of time little Ancic was taking in between serves. He started counting the times the ball was bounced before she served. "I am going to have to get a calculator to see how long she takes".

- The other one was "they are going to have to replace that ball before she hits it the amount of times she bounced the ball before serve".

Re: Commentary at its best

It's womens tennis, but in the Venus-Spirlea 1997 US Open match, one of the British commentators said that Venus's game wasn't made for grass. :retard:

Re: Commentary at its best

Stolle during the Hopman Cup when Bopanna played Berdych.

- "I think Berdych is the slight favourite here".

Re: Commentary at its best

When these commentators found out Thunder Lips and Hingis were engaged.

One of them said, yes the rumours are unfortunately true and maybe we'll see Radek smile some more now.

Re: Commentary at its best

I want to share some of the genius thoughts from Jordan Bojinov, the leader of Eurosport-Bulgaria team (sadly you guys can't listen to his commentary)

US OPEN 2006

"The official count of the audience tonight is 22 289, but that's true only if 5000 of them are disguised like empty seats"

"There should be an official rule in the matches against Agassi: no short balls against him, a little respect to the old man, please!"

"Welcome to the home of Youzhny, a home built from double faults"

"Baghdatis will appreciate meter and a half longer court, the real one appears to be too short for him'

"Now back to the Blake’s match, where the things are quite interesting, even criminal"

In Bulgarian they sound a lot better, but I think you can catch the spirit :)

:haha: :yeah: But personally I think Diema's commentators are funnier (unfortunately not in a good way).

Re: Commentary at its best

Some idiot at the Hopman Cup saying Robredo had the best single hander in the game.

Re: Commentary at its best

McEnroe at Wimbledon

"Lets all take a vodka shot every time nadal pics his ass, and lets see who's left standing"

Federer on his Wimbledon chances

"I'm not the favourite but I'll be suprised if anyone beats me"

Mat Wilander French open Europsport
"Maria's great to watch playing so long as you're deaf"

Re: Commentary at its best

Bill Threllfall last year at some clay court tournament.

Romano Grillotti seemed reluctant to get down off the chair to check a call - as he hesitated and the player indicated he wanted it checked, Bill was heard to opine: "I don't know why he's taking so long, he should check the mark. The exercise wouldn't kill him either."

Re: Commentary at its best

This one isn't from a commentaror, but it still made me laugh a lot. I'm watching Roger's match with my Mom and Dad. And in one of the changeovers, the camera focused Tony Roche, and my dad suddenly asked:

"Is that Federer's father?"

LOL

Re: Commentary at its best

Simon Reed back in glorious form again, calling Tsonga an "Ali-lookalike". He may be right actually, but another one of his observations that comes straight out of the blue. My favourite so far though has to be, "And if you're just coming in now.... where on earth have you been??!!", to which I said back at the TV, "Trying not to listen to you, Si."

Re: Commentary at its best

Don't you just hate it when it's late (it's late in Melbourne), they (ES France) is showing a match no one cares about (sorry but not many people care about Fish-Ljubo in France ) and there is that poor lonely commentator who's talking alone with such a passion that he makes you want to go back to bed and that it's obvious they kept the "good" commentators for the night session? :tape:

Marat aka Mr Charm (aka every tournament's money-milking cow :tape:) will play in the night session so obvioulsy good commentators are needed. :D :aplot:
