Osmonde- What do you mean when you said this isn't the first time Hernan has let down a player in his coaching career? I don't know much about Hernan before Ernests, but I had only heard good things so your comment surprised me. It seems Marat respected him since he recommended him.
The fact is, unless someone here knows something I don't, we have NO idea what actually happened between Hernan & Ernests. Everything seemed pretty simple, Hernan would be away for a few weeks then return to coach our Ernests but without knowing anything about recent events, we can't be sure who is the one that cut the ties. They seemed to be working well but we have no knowledge of what happened behind our eyes. I certainly don't want to put any blame or negativity against Hernan at this point.
Ernests has had a tough year. It can't be easy that he has had to deal with different illnesses through out the year. If he remains positive and has faith in himself and what he wants to do, he can certainly over come this. I still will say 2009 was by far his worst year. That was purely mental with a lack of any real effort, where as this year it seems that he really is trying to work hard but his body isn't used to it and breaking down. I constantly worry that he will give up. Like we all know, he has talked about quiting tennis a lot in interviews and that scares me. I don't want to loose my Ernests. I don't even want to think about it, and I hope this isn't something that we are going to dwell on on here. It's just going to make us all depressed. We haven't had much to be positive about this year, I realize that but there is no point in being so depressing and over think everything to death. The only thing we can do is keep our head up, have faith in him and the team he currently has around him, hope for the best & wait until we get actual information.
@Jade,
I think Hernan and Ernests worked in harmony, Ernests was pleased with him and said it many times. Hernan will be closer to his family in South America coaching Monaco, who lives in the same country. That might be the only reason for that move, if it becomes reality.
What I learned about Gumy's past came from a tennis journalist friend of mine, I had no clue myself.
Let's hope bright sky will appear with spring blooming.

Oh, I won't press you then. I was just curious. Yeah, Hernan and Ernests did seem to work well together. It hurts me to know they most likely have parted ways. I hope he is able to get a regular coach. Although I'm glad he has reached out to the Adidas team, that can only take him so far.
It does make sense that he would work with one of the players from South America, I know he has a good relationship with a lot of the players. I remember when Ernests, Monaco & Safina were working together during the off season with Hernan before. I'm sure it's not easy for Hernan to be so far away from his children so I can understand how the change would make sense. It is frustrating though. I wish we knew more of what's going on. It's none of our business BUT we are great fans! I like to think we are part of team Gulbis
Girls, im really upset about this. Just the negative thoughts of what could happen scares me. But I must remain positive and know that he's in good hands with Cahill and the adidas team. He just needs to get healthy again and continue to focus on how to move forward with his game. If only Ernests knew or cared how much us fans support him. We got your back E!
It seems he really isn't healthy. Although I hate all the withdrawls, I'd rather him get 100% healthy before he starts to play tournaments again so I think it's for the best.
Well, it is going to be a long way climbing up. If he only plays Nice before RG, his draw could bring a top player in first round. Wish him all the best and the will to come back on court. Tennis needs him :inlove:
Couldn't agree with you more. That's why I kept saying rankings are important while other fans here seem don't care rankings that much.
After the 180 points for Madrid being dropped on May 16th, his rankings will prolly be out of Top 85. It will definitely bring him a seeded player in the first round of a grand slam, and he needs to play qualifying matches for most ATP 500 and ATP masters tournaments.
Anyway, best of luck to Ernests! We want him come back strong again soon.
I really hope Ernests' health problems aren't serious - he needs some time to get himself together mentally and physically after the tough time he has had lately.
Like all of you, I hope he still wants to continue with his tennis career like he said he does.
BUT, if he does have a change of heart, then he'd be making the right decision for him and that's to be respected
Well, a girl on tumblr mentioned she saw Gulbis in Rome. This sounded a bit confusing since he has withdrawn from the tournament. If she did see our Ernests then I assume he is there with the Adidas team, slowly getting back into form which is a positive sign! I figured he'd still be in Latvia but it's nice to hear he is training! He is still working hard girls!
Very positive news if he is working in Rome. Maybe Cahill pumped him up; though next week, his ranking will be around 83. He will have to fight in qualies to hit main draw pretty soon. Is he ready to play challengers to rise his ranking faster? We will see.
Of course he'd have to play some qualifiers with his ranking falling but I'd be very surprised if he'd go back to playing challengers. Although, who knows what the Adidas camp has in mind for getting him back on track.
Yes, Andy has been working with Cahill for a little bit now. Cahill is working with multiple players right now in both ATP & WTA. Although Cahill is a great coach, I'm hoping Ernests finds himself a full time coach soon.
Ernest Gulbis is suffering from a respiratory problem that forced him to pull out of Madrid and Rome
"Every time a small wind blows it affect me," Gulbis told The Times of London. "My immune system was not good and this time I had to drink antibiotics for three days and didn’t practice at all. I hope to get a wild card into Nice."
Gulbis is no longer being coached by Argentine Hernan Gumy, but has been working some with adidas coach Darren Cahill and trainer Gil Reyes.
Talking about his trainer Gil Reys "He’s the first guy who can put me to work for one hour without talking to me. He motivates you so well with his positive energy in the gym, you just want to work."
I love that. I think Ernests is on the good track and is motivated. So everything is not lost.
Here is the longer article about him with his comments:
Of course everything is not lost! You always have to believe in the good! I'm glad that we have more information on how he is doing and I'm so happy that Gil has the power to make Ernests want to work even harder!
I'm so happy Ernests finally reached out to the Adidas team. It'll only do him good. And by what he said it's obviously going in a positive direction. So get better bb, tennis misses youuuu!
Its great to hear from Ernests! I hope the respiratory problems will clear up completely and not recur again!
I have a positive, good vibes feeling regarding his work with the Adidas team, they dont come much tougher than Gil Reyes,in the motivation/inspiration/knowledge stakes. I am happy he seems content with the way its going.
May the 2011 season and Ernests be in harmony with each other again,he deserves a change of luck. May he get to compete again before RG health and Tournament organisers goodwill permitting. I dont want to be concerned with results, all I want is for him to be able to compete to the max once he's completely healthy and more importantly match fit. This will take time
Thank you for the news, everyone I'm glad he got the WC!
