Het is denk ik wel tijd voor een cheering thread voor Thiemo de Bakker. Onze nr.1 bij de jeugd die inmiddels zijn 2e future heeft gewonnen

About time there is a Cheering thread for the no.1 of the juniors,

Thiemo won his second future in Portugal today and will reach a position in the top 500

Slecht nieuws over Thiemo

De Bakker and compatriot Antal van der Duim were suspended for a month by the KNLTB on 27 November 2006, because the two did not follow the commitments made between them and the federation. They were supposed to fly back home, but played three future tournaments in Israel instead. De Bakker reached the final in one of these tournaments.

Per http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thiemo_de_Bakker

This sounds even more absurd than the explanation of getting caught with the girls.

Thiemo de Bakker (NED) and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (RUS) are the 2006 ITF Junior World Champions.

De Bakker, 18, is the first ever Dutch player to be named Boys’ World Champion. Despite only playing only nine events during the first half of the year, he captured six singles titles including his first Grand Slam success at Wimbledon. He was also a semifinalist at Roland Garros and had an overall win-loss record of 42-3.

Richard Krajicek will be the manager of thiemo de bakker. Richard has good contacts in the world of professional tennis and knows what you need to reach the top says thiemo. Thiemo will still work with eddy bank and the dutch federation. He will play qualies in Bergamo and Marseille in preperation of the ABN amro tournament in Rotterdam were he will play qualies to or maybe main draw if Richard will give him a wildcard, His chances will rise after signing for Richard I guess

He plays an aggressive baseline game, pretty typical for a good junior. He is tall and lanky, and his serve is good but not great. If he continues to develop his game as he develops physically he should be able to be top 100 at least.

He isn't a super volleyer, but he might serve and volley in doubles.

pretty silent here:angel:

I loved the way he played against an in-form-Arthurs in Wimbledon last year, although his game seems to be worse or just less developed than other players born in 1988, Del Potro, Cilic, Gulbis

Amersfoort, some challengers and futures followed, but he has not played for 4 months now? when will he return? I could well imagine him being awarded a wildcard, at least for qualifying, for Rotterdam (February)

Yeah Thiemo didn't play at all lost months. Even not in the Dutch Masters. Guess he will try it in some challengers this month and then offcourse ABN Amro WTT. He was in a dutch show with John v Lottum. He looked a bit nervous but John talked lovely about him. But all those words about thiemo has to turn into points someday so lets play I will say

whaat? john was in a tv-show  and nobody told me????? does anybody taped it maybe??????????????????????????????????????

they just talked about thiemo and his future, don't know exactly why he was there , its been a while

A sign of life by thiemo winning three matches in qualies and one against ventura in md in Napoli

#28 ·

Sad news about this:

Sluiter has ended the coaching of De Bakker a week ago.
He didn't want to get into too deep the reasons for it, but he basically said that he didn't want to travel all that much with De Bakker (becasue of the difficult year he had himself due to some bad happenings in his personal life), but he sadly also hinted towards De Bakker not (yet) having the true mentality of a genuine tennis pro...

two wins for thiemo, the last one against c.rochus who won lots of matches this year in challengers. 1-6 6-1 6-2. Now Irakli Labadze.

Thiemo will be in the top 300 and if he can go further he can climb really quick and almost skip the places between 300 and 200

I don't know too much about De Bakker other than his results but he does seem to be very inconsistent with often very long gaps in his playing schedule. Does this mean he is physically fragile and needs a lot of recovery time or does it reflect the fact that he is not 100% committed to tennis (study, or different reasons)?

BTW I noticed his compatriot Igor Sijsling (same generation as Thiemo) just came back after a long break and won a futures tournament in Hawaii.

#33 ·
If I'm not mistaken, Igor was seriously injured. He seems very injury-prone and I can't see him having a long career because of that. Also, Thiemo is much, much more talented than Igor. Still, Igor can be a solid Top 300 player if he is somewhat fit. Thiemo has definite Top 70 potential.

Anyways, Igor just lost to Niki Moser in another Future this week.

#34 ·
Well Igor won another futures in the Dominican Republic but then retired in the next tournament last week. Hopefully it's not a serious injury again. :scared:

Where will Thiemo start 2009 season?
I suppose he get a WC in Rotterdam, which must help him a lot since Rotterdam has an "500" category. How do you think about Thiemo's chances to reach top 100 before the Wimbledon?

#36 ·
Well Thiemo was hoping to start his season in Australia but he wasn't ranked high enough to enter the qualie draw in Brisbane I think and he's missed out on the AO q-draw because the Dutch federation had forgotten to enter him:eek: Not sure where he'll be playing next.
