(I will update this as Tim progresses)
Tim has never been past the 4th round at the AO (came very very close last year), and it's the only Slam event where he's never reached the QF. Let's change that this year, Tim!
I think his draw is okay, without any real challenges until the 2nd week.
Here are his potential opponents, with their seeding, and Head to Head against Tim:
Rd 1: Saulnier 2-0 Tim has to remember his amazing comeback in the French Open last year, when he came back from 2 sets down to beat Cyril.
-Tim def. Saulnier 6-1 6-2 4-6 6-3
Rd. 2: Volandri First meeting. I chose Volandri over Hanescu because he leads Hanescu 2-0 in H2H. Tim has never played Hanescu either.
-Tim def. Hanescu 7-5 6-1 6-4
Rd. 3: Davydenko (26th seed) 2-0. Tim hasn’t lost a set to Nikolay.
Rd of 16: Canas (12) 1-4. I’m worried about this. Tim squandered a 2-0 sets lead to Guillermo last year in the 3rd round. It was a close match though – 9-7 in the 5th set.
Spadea (19) 3-1. I included Vince here because Canas could meet him in the 3rd round, and he leads Guillermo 2-0 in H2H. Tim has a good record against Spadea and I think his chances are better against Vince than Guillermo.
Quarters: Roddick (2) 3-2. Every match they played had at least 1 tie-break set.
Grosjean (14) 4-3. Now Seb can meet Andy in the 4th round, and even though he has a bad record against Andy, he still can beat him, and meet Tim in this round.
-Seb lost in the 2nd rd. to Lisnard.
Semis: Hewitt (3) 0-8 . I hate this record. Hopefully Tim and Lleyton won’t have to play each other in this event. However, it’d be sweet if Tim beats Lleyton in Australia in front of his home crowd.
Coria (6) 2-3. Another tough opponent for Tim, but the match would still be winnable. Also Guille could meet Nalbandian in the round of 16.
Nalbandian (9) 1-4. Bad record again. But Tim beat him easily in Kooyong this week and he has to go through Coria first who he had never beaten!
Chela (25) 3-2. I included him here because Hewitt can meet him in the 3rd round and he’s given Lleyton a hard time in their past matches.
Pavel (17) 2-1. Same reason as Chela’s. Pavel has a winning record against Lleyton (won past 2 matches, both in 2004) and they could meet in the round of 16. - Andrei was upset in the 2nd round by American qualifier Bobby Reynolds.
Others: Nadal 0-0 and Youzhny 0-1. But these 2 could meet in the 2nd round. -Youzhny lost to Nadal in 5 amazing sets
Championship: Federer (1) 6-3. It would be a great match if it happens. Roger has won their last 3 meetings in straight sets, including one this week at Kooyong.
Agassi (8) 1-2. Andre has a slight injury though. Plus, he’s in the same quarter as Fed.
Safin (4) 2-3. Would be great as well.
Moya (5) 4-5. Haven’t played each other in 2 years, and Carlos will have to go through Safin (Moya leads 3-2) and Federer (Roger leads 5-0) before he can reach the final. -Carlos was upset in the 1st rd.
Last year's result: Tim lost in the 3rd round.
Goodluck Tim!!!
