Endless Federer-Nadal debates

Roger Federer reached all four slam finals in 2007, Nadal reached 3 finals and a quarter final.

Roger won the prestigious Tennis Masters Cup. We will have to wait to see if Nadal can win the WTF.

Federer won 8 titles in 2007, including 3 grand slams.

Nadal won 3 grand slams in 2010, including the prestigious RG Wimbledon double. He also won 3 slams in a row.

Both players had interesting slam draws. Federer had to beat world number two Rafael Nadal in Wimbledon final, and a very on fire Djokovic in the US Open. Nadal had to beat Bird Itch in Wimbledon final and a very tired Djokovitch in Us Open final.

2007 was probably Federers least impressive 3 slam season, 2010 was Nadals best season so far one would have to think.

So who had a better season?

Discuss.
The floor is yours. Have at it.

^ Sophocles summed it nicely, maybe even Nadulltards will understand ... But we never know about them :p

Yes. Coca Cola and barbadosan are superior to other antique goods.

FFS, why did they close or move the Federer threads about the Basel/Abu Dhabi app fee's

issue really annoyed me

first the behaviour of those rat bastards in Basel to do that to Fed, even if it had grains of truth, how quick they forget how Fed has supported that tournament for 15 years, been in 9 finals and they turn round and stab him like that, tbh Fed should never play there again after that episode

Abu Dhabi can FO, they couldnt hide the bitterness that Fed didnt want to play this year (yeah, we believe you would rather see 'young talent' like Almagro :spit: )

truth is these tournament would break the bank to get Fed alone - over Nole, Nadal and Murray combined - same with that Moscow tournament, altho i think that story was a load of hot air from Nadal uber fanboy Kafelnikov

the issue of Fed's 2013 schedule alarmed me as well, no Miami, no DC, no Monte Carlo again, no playing before AO (altho i dont think thats a bad thing, anyone can see he's been burnt out since Olympic sf match v Del Potro)

he will gift that #2 ranking to 'dull

have always known he hated playing in Miami, all those latin Nadal fanboys annoying him, they should move the tournament away from there.

#2 ranking to Nadal? If he gifts his ranking to anyone, it will be Murray. Nadal is also due to play less and will not be in a position to advance anytime soon. However, considering Fed only got 390 points this year for the tournaments he's not entered into next year (except Olympics, but there we have Toronto instead), and has the addition of Paris where he got 1000 points last time he played, he really shouldn't gift anything. Anyone wants his ranking, they'll more likely have to step up and take it.

I agree that the schedule change is not a concern : in last years (not only last year) Miami and Monte-Carlo hardly provided any points (and Doha is a small tournament which was not even countable last year), and he can replace a Basel final by a Paris semifinal which is not harder to do imo.

But his ranking can of course decrease because he had a great beginning of the year last year and it's unlikely that he will do the same again.

But yes rather likely losing his ranking to Murray than to Nadal in the short term, and it's not that a bad opportunity for Federer to be seeded 3, esp. on clay, if Nadal manages to keep his number 4-ranking in the first part of the year (which is far from done).

Well, Murray has 1880 points to defend prior to the clay season and Fed 2765 points. He's 2265 points ahead currently. If Murray passes him it will be because he plays well, not because Fed skips two tournaments.

I agree that a #3 seed with Nadal #4 is not without it's advantages, though a Fed - Murray projected SF in RG could happen regardless of who's #2 and #3. As for drawing Djokovic instead of Nadal, the advantage might not be relevant anymore - either will be very difficult to beat on clay.

Nadal vs Federer at the United States Open

This dream match up will probably never take place in a final now, however which year in which Nadal was close to or even in the final would he have had the best chance, and likewise Federer?

I think 2004-2008 was off limits for Rafa, BUT in 2008 he was on a 2 straight GS finals winning streak against Roger and may have won the match in the locker room though he was tired vs Murray. But Fatigue didn't stop him in 2009 AO then again.

Give us your takes on this.

Id have given him more chance in 2010 than 2011

Would 06-09 Federer have beaten 2011 Nadal in the 2011 FO final? I think he would have at least taken him to 5.

Nadal: If I think I am better than Federer because of 19-10 I will be stupid....

excerpt from Rafa's presser from yesterday. He has set this straight many times - there really should be no doubt. I am glad I feel the same way as Rafa :)

Q. You have always spoken in such glowing terms of your friendship and the fact that Roger, you say, is the greatest player in tennis history. But in some ways does it surprise you when you look at the head‑to‑head record between the two of you that there is such a wide gap?

RAFAEL NADAL: That just a fact at the end. Is a positive fact for me, but that doesn't change that he has much more tournament victories than me. He has more Grand Slams than me. In Masters 1000s we are close. I don't know.

THE MODERATOR: Same.

RAFAEL NADAL: Same? So more than close. (Laughing.)
So that means his career the day of today is better than my one, and that's the real thing. And if I think that I am better than him because I beat him I think 19 against 10, something like this, I will be very stupid and very arrogant.
I think this is not the case. (Smiling).

He's right and he's honest. I don't know why federer fans hate him, seriously. He's always acknowledged Fed's superiority and shows utter respect for him, yet he's hated and called "humbalito" all the time. I don't get it.

These Nadull fans should take a page from the honorable and non-gloating Fedtards.

:haha:
This.

Djokovic's and Murray's fans don't seem as irritating. I guess they're not successful enough to warrant blatant glory chasing. Yet.

And I suspect some people sense an aristocratic air to Federer and get off on identifying with it. He plays the game 'properly'. They're usually more vicious and condescending. Nadal fanboys just seem like they don't follow the game closely and like seeing someone play flashy tennis.

Absolute credit to Nadal, has his classless moments but in regards to Roger has always shown nothing but respect. Rafa clearly has the edge 1v1 but I'll always rate Roger as the better overall player. Hopefully the next Fedal, when, if ever, is a classic in the vein of Wimbys 07/08/Aus 09. Two all time greats.

I agree with you: saying that one player is better than another is stronger than saying that one player owns another when both are playing. Nadal owns Federer but Federer is better than Nadal in terms of what he won.

Re: Nadal: If I think I am better than Federer because of 19-10 I will be stupid....

I'm not doubting about Nadal's honesty here but be serious what do you expect him to say? That he owns Federer or that him at his peak owns Fed at his peak or things like that?
he need not have to go to such lengths as laying out each person's titles and making a comparison. Rafa is totally a fedtard. Once he said "when roger plays like that there is nothing you can do - you just wait and hope his level comes down" - someone else might just say this casually but Rafa totally means it. He is in big time awe of roger's 23/24 consecutive Grand slam SFs - because that means being injury free and playing at top level for 6 years across all slams on all surfaces. He thinks this record is insane and would never ever be broken. He has also spoken on more than one occasion that H2H is skewed in his favor because they have played more times on clay.
