Re: The 2012 season is here! First stop @ Brisbane.

sucks that him and lauryanis got drawn together. He qualified and made the 2nd round last year here so hopefully he can atleast equal that

although i have to be honest i am kind of feeling like lauryanis and him will meet in the 3rd round and lauryanis will beat him

Re: The 2012 season is here! First stop @ Brisbane.

he'll fall to about 135 in the world after this, an early loss in australia could see him either clinging to or out of top 200

he's going the wrong way and its sad to see
LOL. Don't you think, you're judging berankis too fast? It's only the first match of the season. I don't say that it's not a bad lose. If you follow Ricardas career you can agree with me that Berankis is fully unexpected, he can make 3rd round of australian open and lose in the first round of qualifying ;)

Re: The 2012 season is here! First stop @ Brisbane.

It seems Rycka continues without confidence like in the end of last season, hope he can get an easy draw in Melbourne and try to recover it. With a bit of luck maybe he can be seeded in the range 1-16 (now he would be near 20)

Sudas! I know it's a bad start but lets give him time! He had a very long injury, so it's very hard to win confidence. I KNOW he will win it with time. Just don't put too much pressure in him. He already show the good things he's capable of.

Re: The 2012 season is here! First stop @ Brisbane.

I doubt that he will be seeded 1-16 since he didn't defend 32 pts in Brisbane...

And lets stop making any conclusions from one match...

Re: The 2012 season is here! Aussie Open Q up next.

Usually I would say "easy draw for Rycka, he won't have trouble to qualify", but at this moment any match seems hard for Berankis, this qualy will be a good test for him, hope he can pass it :)

Rycka will play against Martin in the first match of court 8 (10 am local time / 11 pm GMT)

Why is that? have you seen him playing lately?

It's early to decide, it was just one match this season. I think it was just bad day in Brisbane. :)

Rycka coach after match with Herdych said: "With Herdych we played absolute incredible. Missed all balls. Anyway in practice Rycka looks really very good. But you need to play not only in practice, but also in matches"

I saw him playing last matches of 2011 and he was without confidence. The defeat against Hernych (an opponent he should beat without trouble if he plays at the level he had before the injury) in straight sets seems showing he continues how he finished last year, but I've belief he will recover the confidence :)

Re: The 2012 season is here! Aussie Open Q up next.

I watched him at Bratislava CH, where I realy liked what I saw in Q and SF, only in F he looked tired...
So I'm not sure which exactly matches are you talking about but I wouldn't make any conclusions from one unsuccessful match in Brisbane.

Re: The 2012 season is here! Aussie Open Q up next.

Victory against Del Bonis in 3 sets (Orleans)
Victory over Robert 76 in the 3rd set (Bratislava)
Victory over Rosol 76 in the 3rd set (Bratislava)
Defeat in straight sets against Lacko (Bratislava)
Defeat against Zverev in 3 sets (Geneva)

Except for Robert match I saw all these and think he can do better, in my opinion playing at the level he had before the injury he could have win Bratislava and Geneva. I'm not criticizing him for these results, all players have good and bad moments and is even more understandable if we take account Rycka was almost 4 months stopped by an injury.

I'm not basing my opinion in one match, I think this match is the continuity of how he finished last year

Anyway like I said this is my opinion, you can think in another way and obviously there's no problem with that

Well done Rycka :worship:

Former ITF junior world No.1 Ricardas Berankis overcame windy conditions to record victory in the opening round of the Australian Open men’s qualifying competition on Wednesday, while former Melbourne Park finalist Arnaud Clement crashed out in his first match.

Berankis, the No.13 seed in the draw, defeated Fabrice Martin of France, 6-4 6-4.

The match didn’t begin until after 1.30pm as rain delayed the start of the qualifying competition, but the Lithuanian said he was pleased to be into the second round.

“It was pretty heavy conditions today, with the wind it was pretty hard to play. I thought he served really well in these conditions but I think I managed to return well on the important points,” Berankis said.

The former ITF junior world No.1 became the highest-ranked Lithuanian player in history in 2010 and peaked at No.73 after a third-round appearance at the Australian Open last year.

He knocked out former Wimbledon finalist David Nalbandian in round two at last year’s Australian Open before losing to world No.7 David Ferrer.

After an injury-interrupted 2011 season, which saw his ranking slide out to 132, Berankis was keen to get his 2012 season off to a good start.

“I like Australia, I made the junior semi-finals here and last year made the third round, so I have great memories coming back,” he said.

Berankis mixed up his game against Martin, winning rallies from the baseline and showing a willingness to move forward and finish points at the net.

In a tight second set, two forehand winners gave Berankis the crucial break in the ninth game.

He was then able to hold serve to love to book a place in the second round, where he’ll play Spain’s Roberto Bautista-Agut, who defeated Australian wildcard Michael Look 6-4 6-4.
