I know Borg's winning streak. Is true that a victory by a walkover doesn't add but (and is a personal opinion) a defeat by walkover is a defeat for all purposes (I insist, is a personal opinion)

What is the record of "tie breaks win in final set" without Karlovic's challenger matches?

Thanks

I guess it's Moya's 34... You can compare them here and here albeit I haven't updated the thread about Karlovic.

My contribution to this awesome thread:

1970 Salisbury Final : Ilie Nastase def. Cliff Richey 6-8 3-6 6-4 9-7 6-0
1973 Washington indoor Equity Open Final : Ilie Nastase def. Jimmy Connors 4-6 6-4 6-2 5-7 6-2

According to Nastase's French Wiki page these two tournaments are listed on the ATP Player's Guide (I don't have it) but not on the ATP website (and I suppose not on the ITF one either). That makes it at least 41.

By the way, if someone has more information about these two tournaments I would be grateful. I'm searching for the number of players in the draws (and the number of matches the winner has had to play).

Nastase & Connors have also lost the doubles final at Washington to Fassbender/Meiler, still according to the French wiki page.

For the rest, I know for sure that Nastase won another 5-setter against Borg but that was an exo match and you can also check that out: http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/archive/index.php/t-210768.html ;)

Thanks for all

Other Nastase 5-setter match:
Reggio Calabria'1968: Riessen d. Nastase 3-6,3-6,6-3,6-4,6-2
Palermo'1969: Tiriac d. Nastase 4-6,6-0,6-2,2-6,6-2
Travemünde'1969: Nastase d. Gulyas 6-2,7-5,1-6,2-6,6-4
Bruselas'1970: Okker d. Nastase 6-3,6-4,0-6,4-6,6-4

Therefore Nastase has a 5-setter record of 42-23

List of lowest ranked women's grand slam champions

Chris O'Neil (Australia) Number 111 won Australian Open'1978
Serena Williams (USA) Number 81 won Australian Open'2007
Barbara Jordan (USA) Number 68 won Australian Open'1979

Is true that Evonne Googalong (in Australian Open'1977) and Kim Clijsters (in US Open'2009) was unranked but they had an excuse, Goolagong just had a child and Clijsters returned to the competition

Anyone know the lowest ranked women that won a title??? I don't know

After gathering all matches of numbers one (excel file with all matches but only winners and losers, no results, nearly 3000 matches if anyone cares) I found out the following records

Winning streak against Nº1: Ivan Lendl 7
Lendl defeated between 1981 and 1983 7 times in a row the number 1. All victories against John McEnroe: 2 in 1982, 4 in 1983 and 1 in 1983

Total victories against Nº1: Boris Becker 19
Boris Becker defeated in 1986 Ivan Lendl (3 times), in 1988 Ivan Lendl and Mats Wilander, in 1989 Ivan Lendl (2 times), in 1990 Ivan Lendl and Stefan Edberg (2 times), in 1991 Stefan Edberg, in 1992 Jim Courier (3 times), in 1994 Pete Sampras (2 times), in 1995 Andre Agassi and in 1996 Pete Sampras (2 times)

Boris Becker defeated 6 differents numbers 1: Lendl, Wilander, Edberg, Courier, Agassi and Sampras

Roger Smith (Bahamas) defeated Ivan Lendl (Nº1) en Stratton Mountain'1988 by 6-2,6-3

Patrick Rafter was number 1 by one week but never played a match as number 1

Thomas Muster is the only number 1 that lost his first 3 matches as number 1 (in 1996 against Sandon Stolle, Adrian Voinea y Nicolás Pereira)

Gustavo Kürten y Marat Safin lost 5 matches in a row as number 1. In 2001 Kürten lost against Greg Rusedski, Jan Michael Gambill, Thomas Johansson, Juan Carlos Ferrero y Max Mirnyi and Marat Safin lost against Greg Rusedski, Karol Kucera, Dominik Hrbaty, Max Mirnyi and Arnaud di Pasquale in 2001 too

Active players:
Rafael Nadal 13 victories against number 1 (last 5 in a row and all against Federer)
Andy Murray 5 (2 against Federer and 3 against Nadal)
Dominik Hrbaty 4 (Kafelnikov, Agassi, Safin and Federer)
Fernando González 3 (Agassi, Hewitt and Federer)
Juan Carlos Ferrero 3 (2 Kürten and 1 Agassi)
Nikolay Davydenko 3 (2 Federer and 1 Nadal)
Roger Federer 3 (against Hewitt, Roddick and Nadal)
Novak Djokovic 3 (all against Federer)
David Nalbandián 3 (3 Federer)
Juan Martín del Potro 3 (1 Nadal and 2 Federer)

I add a new record, title (Triple Crown)

That is when a player win Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles in a same Grand Slam

Men Record: Donald Budge (Wimbledon 1937 and 1938; US Open 1938) with 3 "Triple Crown"
Women Record: Suzanne Lenglen (Roland Garros 1925 and 1926; Wimbledon 1920, 1922 and 1925) and Margaret Court (Australian Open 1963, 1965 and 1969; Roland Garros 1964; US Open 1970) with 5 "Triple Crown"

It's the new thread: better organized, user-friendly,...

In 2003 Clijsters was Nº1 whithout Grand Slam titles as Mauresmo in 2004, Jankovic in 2008 and Safina in 2009. This Monday Wozniacki keeps the streak and will be number 1 whithout Grand Slam title. Wozniacki only played 1 Grand Slam final (lost US Open 2009) and only won 2 WTA Premier titles (Montréal'2010 and Tokyo'2010) but also play final this Sunday in Beijing

Any help with any record; any new record,... is welcome

Hi again!

Fastest 2nd serve belong to Karlovic (144mph/232kmh).

Some of your ways to name the stats is sometimes a little confusing, what about changing:
Victories -> Match wins
Defeats -> Matches lost
History -> Career stats
Game devolopment -> Match stats
Speed serving -> Fastest serves

Is it also possible for you to make links to lists or other pages which confirms the stat?

Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan won his 66th title as pair. This record is the first with link that confirm the stats. In the first two dots is a link with men record, and in the second two dots is a link with a women record. At the moment only Bryan&Bryan record

Only links with official webs (ATP, WTA, Davis,...), Wikipedia or newspaper news

In 1965 and 1969 mixed doubles final in Australian Open didn't played. However in all statistics Fred Stolle or Owen Davidson, for example, won those editions but Margaret Court didn't won. Why would anyone give her titles in 1965 and 1969.

In my opinion, if Davidson won 11 mixed doubles titles or Fred Stolle won 7, Margaret Court 19 mixed doubles Grand Slam and 64 Grand Slam combined titles (24 Singles+19 Doubles+21 Mixed)

Hi Eldrick and Merry Christmas.

In my thread I meant I felt ashamed because the US Open win was obvious, it's a Grand Slam. But thanks again for the correction. ;)

By the way I think there is something to say about the Vilas match winning streak, which I already mentioned in the main section of this forum.

Right in the middle of his streak he won 4 matches at an exo tournament (the Harrison Lionel Tennis Week: http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guillermo_Vilas#Titres_non_recens.C3.A9s_par_le_site_Web_de_l.27ATP_:_9), which puts him at 50. that's one better than Borg if we consider a "walkover" as a "no match".

Lendl is at 44 ATP-sanctioned matches but he won 5 matches at the Toronto Molson Light Challenge in 1982, which puts him at 49.

And Vilas' loss to Nastase in Aix was only due to the latter's "spaghetti racket", which will later be banned. If you remove this match he holds a 74 ATP-sanctioned match winning streak (46 + 28) until the loss to Borg at the Masters. A hypothetical win against Nastase would have put him ahead of Navratilova. Vilas also played a few more exos but none as big as the Harrison one.

I didn't know tournaments of Harrison (Vilas) and Toronto (Lendl) but I think that this tournaments are unofficial

Vilas's loss to Nastase in Aix. Loser excuses, and Vilas withdrew. If Vilas played a tournament but didn't win the title is impossible to continue the streak

Borg 49 winning streak with 2 walkover in the streak (Rotterdam in quarterfinals and Dallas in semifinals). With walkover in first round the streak continues, but in another round is like a defeat for a record like this

And another thing, with dubious records, I agree with the official version (but Federer or Nadal win 50 games in a row soon;))

Excuse my english, Google Translator is to blame:D:D:D
