Alex beat Adam Feeney 4-6 6-3 Ret in the first round at the Melbourne futures event, disappointing to not see Feeney finish the match out with whatever the problem was I'm not sure but great to see back on the winners list and will play the winner of Klein or Berman.
Alex got probably his best win ranking wise today beating second seed Brydan Klein in what seemed to be a tight 3 setter, 6-3 3-6 6-4. He will play 8th seed Matt Reid who he has lost to the last two weeks in a row, Matt leads the head to head 4-1 I'm pretty sure, carn Alex third time lucky. He is also into the doubles final with Nick Krygios which I'm tipping them to take out quite easily.
Bolty gets his revenge against 8th seed Matt Reid beating him 6-3 6-4, Alex will next play the winner Greg Jones and Stephane Robert. Would be nice to see Jones get through and play Bolt, the two played at the Australian Open together in the doubles where they lost in the second round. A few friends of Alex's said Jones wasn't up to that level and let Alex down, so on that if they meet one another I'm going with Alex in straight. Doubles final is still on later with Kyrgios.
Alex did lose to Groth 7-6 6-4, he will face a Korean I think by the name of Jeong in the first round in Syndey who is ranked about 320 in the world, he has a possible second round meeting with Groth again.
Not sure what to make of this year from Bolt. Career high ranking without over playing is a plus however he needs to gain some points quickly to get into US Open quallies. Next year will be when he makes his move in my opinion.
Aussies not fairing well in Melbourne, but this time against a fellow Aussie:
Bolt goes down against James Duckworth (ATP147). Expected, but Bolt did fight back after the rain delay, from a break down in the 1st set to go to the tie-break, but out-gunned there 2-7, and then drops first service game of 2nd set, and not able to get it back, eventually going down to Ducky 67(2) 36.
ouch. too close really, and had a tough draw =( unlucky this time...
