Re: Dinara Part 2: NUMBER ONE ON 20th APRIL!

From a recent interview with Dinara's brother ( ;) ):

"Of course I am happy about her, but the more important is for her to realize the meaning of this event. (...) I would like to wish her to remember very well her inner feelings in this moment. Unfortunately, sooner or later one ceases being number one. Those feeling she needs to preserve somewhere deep inside her mind. "

- Did you congratulate her already?
- I did of course. Btw, I offered her already few times to celebrate it (smiles)

Re: Dinara Part 2: NUMBER ONE ON 20th APRIL!

I read this on Dinara Message Board (on TennisForum):

http://www.championat.ru/tennis/article-31569.html
Tarpi said Dina won't play for FedCup team in this season. "the problem with Dina is that she like Bovina and Cherkasov doesn't feel level of physical activity and can't stop at right moment.she overtrained and didn't feel the ball" said Tarpischev who speaked with Safina recently.

Re: Dinara Part 2: NUMBER ONE ON 20th APRIL!

Thank you! I did the google translate and got the general gist of it.. Some parts are funny with the translation though! Guess he did the interview over the phone or with a Russian reporter in Monte Carlo. Man I wish he had done the after match interview yesterday... What must he be thinking!!

Guess he did the interview over the phone or with a Russian reporter in Monte Carlo.
It was made by Russian reporter after the official post-match press conference.

hmmmpfff
I can understand he wants to quit, and is tired of playing etc. And if that's what he wants, then
But I'm a bit annoyed that he can still show brilliance and could have won more matches recently than he has, by just believing in his chances a little more... and didn't.
Steppy, I'll try to translate few of this words, that I think summarize best the whole interview:
"I play matches and tournament like before. Some places I win, some places I lose. Some places I play better, some places worse."

Nothing too dramatic. IMHO he still tries to win matches, still tries to do something well (hence the pressure that he denies), but mentality has always been of a trick to him. That's part of his whole brilliance, after all :) As Irochka pointed out, at some point he might get afraid he'll win :p

Re: Dinara Part 2: NUMBER ONE ON 20th APRIL!

Well, they had an english version of his answers, so, for everyone's reading pleasure ;) :

SAFIN SET TO FINISH HIS TENNIS CAREER
Marat Safin confirmed his decision to withdraw from professional tennis at the end of the season.

Following not very successful performance in the series of competitions on hard surfaces Marat Safin returned to clay at the Monte Carlo Masters. In the first round he met with Australia’s Lleyton Hewitt and won in two straight sets 6-4 7-5, however he didn’t pay significant attention to this victory.

"I just better used to the balls and the surface", said Safin to Sport Express. "We shouldn’t make any far-ranging conclusions".

"Lleyton came here twelve hours before the match, while I have been preparing for this competition for two weeks. I also played a match in doubles, so my victory over Hewitt is just a simple victory and nothing more".

"I decided that I would withdraw from professional tennis at the end of the season and I had serious grounds for this decision. I am tired of a life of a sportsman and I want quietness and tranquility".

"Frankly speaking I am little bit tired of playing tennis. I still take part in competitions, but I don’t feel the same energy, which was some time ago. I don’t get the same pleasure from playing tennis, as I got before".

"Though there are several moments, which could change my mind. I can’t say that I play awfully. I play well on the court and I am in perfect physical form, but it would be silly to change my decision after one match or one tournament".

"There is nothing bad in my decision, because I just need to try something new in my life. I gave everything I could to tennis and I don’t have any motivation for continuing my career".

"I will never advance to the top-ten list again :( . Comparing with the world’s leading players, I am not so strong physically and morally. In any case let’s wait for the end of the season. If something really extraordinary happens this season, maybe I will stay in tennis for one year more".

"I like playing in Monte Carlo Masters. To my mind it’s one of the world’s best tournaments. Look how many supporters come here from France, Italy and other countries".

"My sister Dinara will top the WTA rankings on Monday and I am very happy for her. The most important thing for her is to understand significance of her achievement".

"A title of the world number one is the maximum achievement in tennis. Dinara should understand her new status and get maximum pleasure from it".

"I also would like to wish her to remember her current feelings for a long time. Sooner or later all players step down their thrown, so she needs to keep these emotions with her".

So true. :awww: I think he just wants us to want to kick his ass till the end.

Re: Dinara Part 2: NUMBER ONE ON 20th APRIL!

Guys, pwease, don't get too deep in this. As I said earlier it sounds too severe in English :) The journalist tried to give him a guilt trip, but Marat didn't fall in the trap. All is fine, things go as planned. He smiles :yeah:

Btw Tarpi also said that Marat could play good tennis 2-3 years more, if he wants to ;)

agreed with Tarpi ;)

About the rest, you may be right but it doesn't change the fact that there had been a few close calls on recent matches and that he just didn't seem to believe in his chances enough, and lost them when he could really have won them. That's what annoys me. As I said in he previous post, and several times before, I totally understand that he wants to quit, but I'm thinking "if these are your last tournaments, don't you want to give your best?". He says he's no pressure this year. If so, then he shouldn't start thinking on court when he's leading on the scoreboard. What happened in recent matches looks a lot like choking  and choking to me is related to pressure, and to the moment when you realize you can win and you suddenly add pressure on your shoulders...
If he's determined to quit and has no pressure, how can he blow up a double break advantage in the 3rd set?

See that's what i'm not too comfy with.:awww: He wants to quit? fine. And a farewell tour is a great thing to do. But if you're saying goodbye at least say it well.

btw the english summary translation is a bit misleading. After this part "Though there are several moments, which could change my mind" the journalist asked Marat to specify what moments exactly can make him change his mind and Marat answered that it's personal and not related to tennis.
thanks

50% on topic: In the Arena When Winning is All in the Family

I think I've seen this quote before, but I always love it...
“They are good together,” Islanova said recently. “Their spirits are pretty much identical. They have the souls of a brother and sister and always felt that way, and as parents we put so much effort and time so that they would grow together.”
:awww:

100% on topic: SD ekskluzivno Dinara Safina: Marat sad može u mirovinu, a Ljubičiću još dugujem večeru!

Uhhh... I don't speak Croatian, but from Google Translate it seems like she's been training in Munich and is in relatively good spirits. It also sounds like she might have fired her fitness coach, but it's Google Translate, so who knows?

Re: Dinara Part 2: NUMBER ONE ON 20th APRIL! 3 more days!!

It bugs me because he seems to be playing alright and still losing, when he really shouldn't be! You need confidence to win matches and you need to win matches to be confident. It's a tough situation.

Re: Dinara Part 2: NUMBER ONE ON 20th APRIL! 2 more days!!

A remark from my TV commentator about Dinara being Nr.1 next Monday:
«As Serena will lose the points from her victory in Charleston last year, Safina will pass her in the rankings and become the Nr.1, which will seem a bit strange as she hasn't done much lately...»

I know she hasn't won a GS and that is the crown jewel in every player's career, but this sentence «Hasn't done much lately?» just pissed me off! A ranking consists of the points collected over a 52 week period and in that period all she did was to win Berlin, Los Angeles, Montréal, Tokyo, reach the final at Roland Garros, 's-Hertogenbosch, the Olympics, Sydney and the Australian Open.

Re: Dinara Part 2: NUMBER ONE!!!!!!!

Yes, she is and it proved to me once more why her brother doesn't even read Russian press :fiery: :fiery: One sports' newspaper celebration for her becoming Nr. 1 is a huge article, where at length they say how cold, arrogant and bitchy she is. She being cute just for camera, her brother being a jerk too. I have read half of it, and was pissed beyond words :fiery:

Dinara, stay on top and prove those idiots what you are made of :woohoo:

Re: Dinara Part 2: NUMBER ONE!!!!!!!

Couldn't agree more. I was shocked, when I saw it and thought at first it's some sick irony or humor. Usually SovSport write nice things, but this one is way beyond any journalism. they deserve not to even see any of the Safins for the rest of their lives, let leave have an interview :fiery: Those idiots critisize Safin parents for how they brought up their kids...that;s just :tape: :fiery: :fiery:

This "article" killed me. I could expect anything from russian media but not this. Today is a big day for russian tennis and today is a big happy day for Dinara and her family. And what does the leading russian sports newspaper do? Do they write about how hard she worked for this, or about her determination, about tough times and difficulties? No, they come out with an article bitching about Dinara not being nice to the press. It's so low, it's just an attempt to spoil this day for Safin family, attempt to revenge for every time Marat and Dinara refused to give interview to them. Incredible.
you should write a letter to the editor :D :D :D

But are all the russian press like this with her and her family?? poor girl.... thanks for the article!!!:worship:

Re: Dinara Part 2: NUMBER ONE!!!!!!!

That article made me , but also, IMO, it was a little bit funny. I mean, the idea that either Marat or Dinara is a good enough actor to fool the entire world into thinking they're well-mannered, funny, and considerate and carry off that act for, like, 10 years, when in reality they are ill-brought up, rude, and graceless is... uh... hilarious. Neither of them can hide what they're thinking/feeling worth crap. If they were that bad, someone, somewhere, would have caught it on video by now.

(Also, speaking of rude, maybe it was just Google Translate, but what kind of an idiot goes up to someone in a closed car and demands an autograph? Dude, I'd tell you to fuck off, too. :p)

Congratulations, Dinara. Don't let the haters get you down. :)

I just read the article and it's so ridiculus that all I could do was laugh. It's petty, mean, bitchy, revengeful and spiteful. Actually it says a lot more about the author than Dinara, Marat or the Safin family. It sounds like something a 14 y.o. would write on her diary after not managing to catch the attention of the star athlete at her school. :p
Total lack of professionalism if you ask me, for regardless of the personal opinion of the journalist, in this day he should celebrate russian tennis, not bitch about how he could not get an autograph.

Re: Dinara Part 2: NUMBER ONE!!!!!!!

RedSonja, that's not point. They are both not too well-mannered, and they can be rude at times and Dinara swears on court like a soldier:p But it's only one part of their personality. Some journlists have problems with Safins exactly because they are not pretenders and they don't play by PR rules.
And even if Dinara was as bad as they say, it would be still pathetic to make this article on the day she became numer one. They will have many more opprtunities to bitch. Doing it today was a clear intention to ruin the party for her and her family.

That was actually kind of what I meant, you just said it much better. The idea that they smile for the cameras as if to put on some act for the world is hilarious, I've learned more Russian swearing from watching Dinara on TV than I have from hanging out with my Russian friends. :p

And, as you say, it's only one part of their personality... one that isn't exactly a secret, so why anyone felt the need to run an article about it on today of all days is just...
