Re: Christophe Rochus Cheering Thread!

Seems he will take part in the municipal elections in October in the village of Grez-Doiceau. He will support the current mayor, Alain Clabots, who leads a local party.

Re: Christophe Rochus Cheering Thread!

I don't think he's staging a comeback. I think he still plays if he's motivated, it's close to home and when it's fun for him. In any case, it's nice to see him playing once again and I am glad his life post-tennis has by all reports been stress free and good for him

Re: Christophe Rochus Cheering Thread!

Seems like Christophe is enjoying himself again. Is he stageing a comeback?

He got a wildcard for F4 Futures in France and easily reached the semifinals, in which he lost to Kenny De Schepper:

Re: Christophe Rochus Cheering Thread!

Chris got Isner in the MD. He has to hope that Isner is tired from the long Belgrade final, and that he returns and serves well, otherwise he has no hope and will be smacked right off the court. He can make things tricky for John, he seems to be playing well, hopefully that good form continues.

Re: Christophe Rochus Cheering Thread!

Chris defeated King Oscar 6-4 6-3 and is into the MD of Madrid. Congrats, Chris! Hopefully he gets a kind spot in the draw where he can do some damage!

Re: Christophe Rochus Cheering Thread!

Chris beat Falla 6-3 5-7 6-2 and is playing King Oscar tomorrow for a place in the MD of Madrid. Difficult match but certainly winnable. Good luck, Chris!

Re: Christophe Rochus Cheering Thread!

Chris lost 2-6 3-6 in Egypt in the SF and now is playing Madrid qualifying, starting today. Here is his draw:

(5) FALLA, Alejandro COL v ROCHUS, Christophe BEL

Falla will be tough but is a winnable match, he hasn't been playing great of late outside of a home challenger in Colombia and prefers hard courts. Likely King Oscar in the second round will also be tough for Chris.

Good luck vs. Falla, Christophe!

Chris lost to Ilhan in the second round of Tunis, and is in the QF this week in Egypt as the #2 seed, beating Tosic 6-0 7-6 and Luncanu 6-3 6-2. He plays Dasnieres de Veigy tomorrow in the QF, let's hope for another victory!.

Re: Christophe Rochus Cheering Thread!

Cristophe doesn't seem to have many fans, but I am one of them! I've always liked how he has gotten a lot of mileage out of his career, although he is lacking in pure talent compared to many others. But he does strike the ball cleanly and well when he's on.

Re: Christophe Rochus Cheering Thread!

A report about Christophe in the Metz local news:
(go to 5'08)
I like how he talks of his retirement, in a very neutral way, saying he's already struggling this year, so since he knows it would be even worse next year, it's definitely not a heartbreak to stop, on the contrary, it's just a job for him anyway, etc.

Re: Christophe Rochus Cheering Thread!

great to see the pics of the celebration when defeating Clément. He said it was 1 of his best matches ever, but still he maintains he's going to evaluate at the end of the year if he has enough pleasure in tennis to not retire.
