It's not like Federer is crushing Roddick today, 7:5 6:7 at the moment.

I think this shows what I already thought: It was a match on a high level, probably the best I've seen from Tommy for a while, but if Roddick plays and especially serves like he did in set 2 and 3 vs Tommy it's gonna be a tight match against anyone, even on clay or at least on a fast claycourt as we have in Madrid. And then it's about making the deciding points, Tommy didn't, but there are lots of opponents who couldn't have held their serves all the time like Roddick, the way Tommy played.

I'm much more concerned whether he can play at the same level again, if he does and gets a good draw, we can expect something from him in Roland Garros.

Re: Madrid Open: vamos Tommy!

Well you might know I missed the great 1st Set and came in very early in the 2nd Set.
Early on even in the 2nd Set Tommy was serving well and he was as is said in tennis "painting the lines"--like Nadal does.
But as the Match went on the serve started to go and the shots instead of "painting the lines" were going long. I knew as soon as Roddick won the TB in the 2nd Set that he would win the Match

Re: Madrid Open: vamos Tommy!

That was fucking pathetic.
I still can't believe he lost, especially now when Roddick got the WO from Davydenko.
I watched the match until 2 all in the 3rd and until that point I thought he;d be the winner.
In the 1st set he made a joke from Roddick, completely outplayed him.
In the 2nd he was still the better player overall, but couldn't win the important points (30 all on Roddick's serve at 5 all and 4 all) and those 2 MP's
If he can't win against Roddick on clay, so against who he can?!

Davydenko withdrew - AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH that would have been the quarterfinal.

This should have been Tommy's win but I think this tournament could be a good sign for the upcoming season.

Re: Madrid Open: vamos Tommy!

I am not sure his calmness is a good thing. May be he didn't have much expectation. Tommy always likes to argue and I thought that shows his motivation. I think a couple of loose points cost him the match that he should have won. I wouldn't say he wasn't mentally tough. He saved 11 break points which won't be done without mental toughness.

Tommy and his old problem: mental toughness. He must win such a match. Well, he collected some unexpected ranking points at least.

well at least as thefly said it was promising...
And consolation would be:I didn't see Tommy got nervous like before, that could mean that he's aware what match he lost, nothing more but match that he should have won.So I guess,he's prepared for the next challenge...but still this was very bad loss..

Re: Madrid Open: vamos Tommy!

I don't know ... that feels just wrong. Doesn't feel like Roddick had to do much - despite Tommy playing pretty strong throughout - except serving strong in the 2nd and 2rd and taking advantage of Tommy's own at times weak serve. I hate that. Tommy would have earned to get that one in two. Just one or two points here and there ... frustrating.
All the more because over a long period, that almost felt like good old times (with the exception of the backhand maybe).
Well. At least it was promising ...
