Re: Photo Thread: 2013 to Present

Dinara is currently in New York at the USOpen and she is a very busy woman while there!

Read all about it.

Re: Dinara Part 2

The pics are from the same videos from which the In-Style screen grabs of Marat were made - you can see both videos on youtube:

Dinara was interviewed at home and made her famous "Tiramisu" (as you'll know if you follow her on twitter) - there's a nice moment when she speaks about her friendship with Dasha - the little bear she shows to the camera that speaks is a recording of Dasha's voice ( cute, huh!? :-)

Re: Dinara Part 2

Hope she will find a career she loves, maybe coaching. Feel very sad with Marat and Dinara leaving tennis. Wish the best for both of them .

Re: Dinara Part 2

You never know...she might be back. Let's hope she doesn't follow her brother into politics - still can't get my head round that

Re: Dinara Part 2

The lesson to be learned is to read properly

btw , Marat going into politics is looking especially funny in the light of all this Dinara retirement/not retirement thing.

Re: Dinara Part 2

On ger sutem she says she is NOT retiring.

Lesson to be learned here.

Just because it's on the internet doesn't mean it's true.

"No decision yet on whether to retire" says Safina (BBC News/Sport - 8 Oct)

Re: Dinara Part 2

So upset to hear this. Can't help but think how unfortunate both the Safins have been with their injuries.

Excellent article from

Dinara will be missed

In rhe past she said that when she retired she would like to study business. And no doubt her dear brother will help her any way he can.

Another article frin eurosport UK

Safin: Struggling Safina must retire

Former world number one Dinara Safina has no chance of making a comeback from injury and will soon announce her retirement, according to big brother Marat Safin

"I don't know how long my time out is going to last because I don't want to torture myself and my body anymore," the Russian said then.

But brother Marat said she had quit for good.

"If you recall, Dinara first suffered the injury in Beijing two years ago," the former men's world number one was quoted as saying on Saturday by Russian media.

"She had tried several times to make a comeback but it only caused her more problems.

"Now she must think of herself, not if she could play again, but just to live a normal life. She must continue with her therapy, but would not be able to play again.

"She will make an official announcement, but being her brother, I think she has no chance at all of making a comeback."

It certainly sounds like Dinara won't be returning to the circut, but I wonder if she really wants her brother making the announcement for her? Poor Dinara...

Re: Dinara Part 2

Just read Marat said she's about to call it quit.
Marat Safin says that his younger sister's Dinara Safina's career is over. Former No. 1 Safina has struggled tremendously with a back injury over the past two years and has not played since May.

"Dinara was injured two years ago, in Beijing, remember?" Safin was quoted by Russian Eurosport as saying at a press conference in Beijing, where he was promoting a match against Pete Sampras. "She left, but never recovered completely. She tried to return, but only aggravated the crisis. Now she needs to keep her back to be able to walk normally and live a normal life. [Her back] will continue to be treated, but she will play no more...She will make an official statement herself, but as her brother, I believe that there is no chance of return."
